Red Mile Race Reviews
Thursday, September 6th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 2-4-3-5
1
Keystone Nite Hawk
Used hard in his first start
for new connections in the mini-series final last time, and hasn’t been able
to duplicate that first local start just yet.
Short field, but this isn’t an easy spot.
2
Crazy Dan
Gapped for much of the mile
last time, but really kicked into gear down the lane to sprint by his rivals
en route to an easy score. I think
you’d be crazy to play against him after that. Tetrick opted here over #5.
3
Jenny the Genie
Lone mare in the field has
been racing well against similar company in NY, but now she faces males as
well. Should pick up on the stretch to
the bigger oval, but going to need her very best against these.
4
Topville Diamond
Blazed through some quick
fractions on the front end here on Saturday, and expectedly tired late and
finished up far behind #2. Certainly
fits with these, hopefully Smith can find a way to ration out the speed.
5
Richard Traci
Parlayed a perfect trip last
time behind #4 into a solid 3rd place finish. Certainly was an improved effort, and
anything similar puts him in the mix once again. Tetrick opted to #2 instead.
6
Whispers Art
Has held his own at this
level locally, but steps up to take on what appears to be a tough group for
this class tonight. I’ll wait for a
better spot. Nisonger opted to #3
instead.
Race 2 Selections 6-7-5-3
1
Laffit
Makes his 2012 debut after
an 11 month break, and I’ll have to watch him go around once first.
2
Moreagio
Lands in what appears to be
the easiest spot he has faced locally, but would still have to pick things up
quite a bit.
3
Jimmy Conway
Jimmy shows up after nearly
an 8 month break, and I must admit that the AM work was pretty solid. Has had some breaking problems in the past
though, and his trainer elects to drive tonight as well. Maybe.
4
Roscoes Rib Rack
Roscoe has had some
disappointing starts here, and many of those after getting off at short odds.
Picks up the services of Tetrick, but
still needs his very best.
5
Manaloha
Never in it on the sloppy
track on Sunday night, but his prior starts here against similar company
would put him squarely in the mix. I
can make a case.
6
Main Street Hall
Continues to improve with
each start back after almost a year on the shelf, and should be primed and
ready to roll here in his 3rd start back on the year. I’m on board.
7
Parson Brown
Tough to gage the 12yo off
his recent OH fair starts, but he does have a win at Scioto
earlier this summer in 2:00.4, and the connections won a race here last
week. I’ll toss him on the
ticket.
Race 3 Selections 3-6-1-5
1
Indy Shooter
Looked to have things back
on track after a sharp local Q’fer, but then ended up sick last Thursday
night. Not sure what to expect here,
but I’ll try and beat him with a short price looming.
2
Wheelie Fast
Has been racing evenly
against similar company recently, but is going to have to find some pop on
the end of it in order to contend for the major awards.
3
Blueridge Casino
Probably hasn’t been facing
much at the OH fairs, but ships in after winning 3 in a row. Hard to fault him off those efforts, and he
lands in a field with plenty of question marks. I’m willing to roll the dice.
4
Half Dozen Roses
Didn’t have anything to
offer in her only local try, I’ll wait until we see some improvement.
5
Request to Win
Mare was actually racing at
the fairs on the same days as #3 up in Ohio,
and we really didn’t learn a lot from that race on Sunday night due to the
extremely poor conditions. Her best
effort should put her close.
6
Real Impressive
Hopelessly pinned in the
other night behind a dead horse, and she was dead game in the prior start in
finishing 2nd. Any smoother
journey makes her a major threat.
7
Tundra
Raced evenly last week in
finishing a distant 4th, and should continue to improve in his 4th
LT start tonight. Still not sure he is
ready to go with the top ones just yet though.
Race 4 Selections 1-5-6-2
1
Paul T
Cut out some quick fractions
on Sunday on the sloppy surface, and expectedly tired a bit late. Start prior was very good though, and I’m
willing to jump on board once again.
Barn has been on a roll.
2
Fortune Road
Closed well from last in the
mini-series final to cut the margin to just over 2 lengths. Should sit much closer from inside post
against short field. Underneath
only.
3
Tricky Grin
Has had some stamina issues
since arriving locally, and would need a lot more to hang around late.
4
KB’s Brock
Drops back in for a claiming
tag after trying out conditioned company in his last couple, and hasn’t had a
lot of success at this level prior.
I’ll wait for a better spot.
5
Catalina Kid
Talk about red flags, this
guy just won for a $5k tag 2 starts back at Scioto,
and went off as the heavy fav last time before finishing up the track. Now he drops in for a $2.5k tag? Something doesn’t seem right here…..
6
Mor Than Enuf Russ
Closed well to finish 2nd
here on Sunday on the off track, and was 3rd in a tough field the
week prior. Appears to be rounding
into form at the right time. I’ll use
him underneath once again.
Race 5 Selections 2-4-3-1
1
Cruise To Fame
I’m willing to give him an
excuse in the last start over the bad track, and the start prior was very
impressive off the layoff. His best
effort would put him right in the mix.
2
Jaxx
Appeared to have LOT of pace on the end of it the other night but could
not find any racing room and had to settle for 4th. I’m willing to hop back on board after
seeing that.
3
Fox Valley Michael
A bit disappointed that he
could not get by #5 last time as the heavy fav, but still not a bad effort to
be 2nd. He was incredible 2
starts back, but likely to be another short price here. I’ll look elsewhere for value.
4
Hezasonof eclipse
Sprinted away from his
rivals on Sunday, and appears to have really rounded into form over the last
couple of weeks. Should be a major
player once again.
5
Heart’s Prince
Perfectly piloted the other night
to pull off the 20-1 upset from post 10 in the mini series final. Not sure things are going to work out that
perfectly here though, and he is likely to be overbet after that.
6
Blazing Tower
Lands in a tough group, and
hasn’t had much to offer recently.
Pass.
7
SBD First Blood
A big improvement last time,
in blowing the board up to finish 2nd at 61-1 in our bottom
condition. Takes on claiming company
once again here, and will have to pick it up even more.
Race 6 Selections 2-7-3-4 Pick 4 Starts Here See Ticket at the End
1
Hoosier Rosie
No luck at this level last
time, and lands in what is probably an even tougher crew here. Not tonight.
2
Do It Best
Hung in there to finish up a
close 4th in a big mile last time, and now takes a drop into what
should be a more manageable level. I’m
willing to hop on board at what should be a nice price. Wrenn opted here over #10.
3
Sexy Smile
Never really got worked into
the race last time before finishing a distant 4th, and was
hopelessly pinned in the start prior.
I think she can hang with these, and I’ll try her underneath.
4
Loco for Cocoa
Conservatively handled in
his local debut off the brief layoff, before shaking loose late to finish up
a decent 3rd in our bottom condition. Takes a slight step up here, but any
smoother journey could put him close.
5
Hereiam Coolwater
Taking a substantial drop
from the Open ranks into mid-level conditioned company, and she did have some
success in an even finish 3 starts back against similar. One of several with a shot.
6
All Is Saidand done
Hasn’t had much luck against
claiming company recently, and it doesn’t appear that things will get any
easier here. Pass.
7
Papaknows best
Has been in against the
sharks in Open company recently, and takes a substantial drop down to a much
more comfortable level tonight. No
question the one to beat, but likely a very short price coming.
8
Boodro
Continues to improve with
each start this season, but steps up to take on the toughest group he has
faced since arriving locally.
Certainly has his work cut out for him from way out here.
9
Annrenee
Has raced evenly against
solid company recently, but lands in a tough spot for this level tonight as
well. Won’t be easy from post 9.
10
Shesgotwht everitis
Didn’t have anything to
offer against claiming company on Sunday, and looks to have landed in a tough
group here. I’ll wait until we see
some improvement. Wrenn opted to #2
instead.
Race 7 Selections 3-2-5-6
1
Holligram
Has disappeared late since
arriving locally, and would take a complete turnaround here.
2
Victoria Valley
Trotted evenly against
similar here all season, and draws into what appears to be the softest field
she has faced since arriving locally.
Must respect.
3
I Look Foxy
Has been dominant on the OH
fair circuit this summer, hitting the board in 10 of 14. Lands in what appears to be a very
comfortable spot for her local debut.
Lots to like.
4
Quiet Charmer
Another fresh from the OH
fairs, where she appears to have been holding her own recently. Hard to gage off those efforts, but she
should improve with the stretch to the big oval. Your call.
5
Wesley Gayle
A solid 3rd in
the monsoon on Sunday, and is another facing what appears to be the softest
spot she has landed in thus far in her brief career. No question she fits with these.
6
I am the King
The King was offstride early
on Sunday, but I suppose we could probably excuse that given the off
track. Likely to fly under the radar a
bit, and may be worth a long look at what should be a square price.
7
Kacy’s Photo
Saved ground to an even 4th
place finish on Sunday, and will have to pick it up even more to have any
shot at the major awards.
8
Buy Me Emeralds
Nothing to offer in her
first local try, hard to endorse after that.
Race 8 Selections 5-8-6-3
1
Fort Riley
Hasn’t been anywhere close
recently. Pass.
2
Iamalucky lucky man
Not bad for his local debut,
but appears to have landed in an even tougher group tonight. I’ll wait for a luckier draw.
3
Moma Jean’s Crown
Appears to have really
turned the corner since adding lasix 2 starts back, and was able to hang on
for a solid 3rd after being aggressively handled last time. Should continue to improve, but this isn’t
an easy spot.
4
B Q Bull
An even 2nd
behind #8 last time, and may be a notch below the favs at this point.
5
Perfect Beauty
Impressive rally off a
perfect trip last time to finish up a game 2nd behind what appears
to be a talented filly. Anything
similar to that effort should make her the one to beat.
6
Glad Glidings
No luck in KYSS action, and
now drops back into what should be a more manageable spot against overnight
company. Should be close with her best
effort.
7
Follow My Dreams
Lone 2yo appears to have landed
in against some solid older rivals here.
I’ll wait for a better spot.
8
Duck Crossing
Exploded away from her
rivals last week en route to an easy victory as the heavy fav. Appears to have landed in a bit tougher
group tonight, but should be close once again.
9
Leanto Scarlet
Trotted to an even 4th
place finish last time, and now gets slammed with the outside post once
again. Appears to be a notch below the
top ones in this crew.
Race 9 Selections 6-3-1-5
1
Scootnick Bodeen
Continues to improve with
each local start, and now lands on the pole after consecutive outside
posts. Appears to be one of many with
a shot in a WIDE open field.
2
Trishie Mae
Has tired badly in her last
couple of local starts, and would have to completely turn things around to
hang around late with this crew.
3
Hawaiian Alibi
A decent effort here on the
off track Sunday, grinding up late to finish 3rd. He has certainly proven that he can go with
this group in the past, and his best effort puts him right in the mix in wide
open crew.
4
Misconception
Hasn’t had anything to offer
against similar in the last couple, I’ll wait until we see some
improvement.
5
Beach Bandit
Another that has improved in
each of his local starts, and now lands in against what is probably the
softest crew he has faced this season.
One of many with a big shot.
6
Sailors Sky
Never in it on the off track
Sunday, and I’m willing to throw that one out. Start prior was very impressive, and I
think he might be ready to pop in here at what should be a nice price. Perfect mid-pack post.
7
In the Money
Barn has been on a roll
recently, but it would take this guy’s absolute very best to finish in the
money here.
8
Frontier Belle
Hasn’t had much stamina in
her local starts, and would have to find a lot more to go with these.
9
Yank My Rope
Not sure what has been going
on here, she added lasix and didn’t race good at all on the off track on
Sunday. Her prior efforts would put
her in the mix, but I’m not sure she is heading in the right direction.
10
Twinkle firetwo
Slammed with post 10 in what
appears to be a tough spot for her.
Pass.
Race 10 Selections 2-7-4-1
1
Redur beautiful
Picked up a couple of checks
against some tough stakes company in her last couple, and should find this
spot to be much more to her liking.
Should sit close from the inside post as well. Maybe.
2
Heavenly Chocolate
Trotted evenly against some
solid company thus far in her brief career, and is another that should find
plenty of class relief in her first local try. Barn has been on a roll here with talented
youngsters.
3
Double Dip
Well bred filly hasn’t shown
a ton of ability just yet, I’ll wait for more.
4
Perfect Alliance
First time starter Q’fed
nicely, but hooks a competitive crew for her debut. Any improvement from the morning work and
she should be able to trot with these.
5
King Jesse
Held his own against
mid-level stakes company in Indy, but has developed some breaking problems
along the way as well. Likely to be in
line for a conservative steer after the miscue in his last.
6
Futuristic Bride
Added hobbles for those last
couple against mid-level stakes company in PA, but hasn’t been able to find
anymore stamina recently. Would take a
lot more.
7
Alfredo Dream
Not sure why he made the
break last time, but he finished up a nice 4th behind a very nice
trio in the start prior in $15k KYSS. There
is plenty of talent here, any smooth journey should put him close.
8
Caribbean Dream
Appears overmatched against
these. Pass.
