Red Mile Race Reviews
Thursday, August 23rd
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 3-2-5-6
1
Show Me Some Skin
Had some mixed results on
the KY Fair circuit, but appears to have landed in a tough spot here against
stakes company. Not tonight.
2
Poker Place
Tough to gage off the
results on the smaller ovals in Canada, and the move to the big
track may help her with those breaking issues. I’m sure they wouldn’t be shipping all the
way here unless they thought she could go.
3
Doc’s Hope
Wow! This filly was ultra impressive in her Red
Mile debut, drawing away down the lane after a tough first over grind against
a solid field of aged mares. No
question she is the KYSS fav!
4
Lady Buckeye
Saratoga invader parlayed a perfect trip into her first
career victory last time, but she is going to need a lot more to keep up with
the top fillies in this field.
5
Shawnee Dancer
Pulled off the shocking
upset at nearly 50-1 last time, beating a heavily favored KYSS 3yo colt down
the lane. She was set up for that off
the quick fractions, but still showed a lot of guts to go by late.
6
Scootie Best Lou
Absolutely tortured through
a quick early tempo last time, and she expectedly tired late. Any smoother journey should give her a shot
at the minor awards.
7
Miss Lucy O
Miss Lucy had a big win here
in 54.4 as a 2yo, but doesn’t appear to have come back as well in her
sophomore campaign. Not sure she is
ready for these just yet.
Race 2 Selections 4-3-2-5
1
Sgt Grit
Crushed overnight company
last week, but lands in quite the shark tank here in stakes action. Would take a big step up.
2
Partner
Held his own against some
solid company in Canada,
and looks to be in a battle with #3 for the place spot behind the fav. Will need his very best. Noble opted here over #3.
3
Caviart Key
Took on the best of the best
last time at Flamboro going for $587k.
Actually was the KYSS runner up here last year. Has his work cut out for him with #4, but
should be able to lock up an on the board finish. DN chose #2.
4
Thinking Out Loud
Won the $1.5 million NA Cup
at Mohawk earlier this summer, and is nearing in on $900k in earnings. No question he is going to give this bunch
something to think about. Lands in
opposite division of other standout, Bolt the Duer, but no worries we are
going to see those two hook up eventually.
5
Doc’s Zippy
Don’t be too hard on this
guy, he fired out early through some quick opening fractions and actually got
caught behind a dead horse down the lane.
I’ll try him underneath the favs in 4th.
6
Jimmy Rip
Jimmy has rounded into form
recently in Indy, but this is a BIG step up from NW’s events there. Not tonight.
7
Yakkity Yak Jack
Tons the best here on
Sunday, after appearing to be hard to steer for his pilot. Goes from taking on conditioned claiming
company to one of the best in the country tonight. Pass.
Race 3 Selections 6-5-3-7
1
Duck Crossing
A nice even effort against
overnight company, but takes a step up to face some major league rivals
tonight. Not sure she is ready for
these just yet.
2
PerfectBeauty
Sharp Q’fer over sloppy
track at Mohawk, but will need her very best to take on some nice 3yo fillies
here.
3
Serene Lady
Has developed a very nice late
kick this season, and looks to have a big shot at the minor awards behind the
fav.
4
Delmary
Trotted evenly to finish 3rd
in overnight last time, but asking quite a bit to hang with these.
5
American Saint
The 3rd place
finisher in last year’s $250k final has flashed some brilliant efforts
sporadically throughout the year, but has had some breaking issues as
well. No question she has the talent,
if she minds her manners.
6
Northern Miss Hall
Still the queen until
someone proves they can dethrone her.
The defending champ was undefeated in KYSS action last year, and
appears to have landed in a comfortable spot to defend her title. Must respect.
7
Gotcha Girl
Finally appears to be back
on track this season, but has hooked some tough rivals here in the opening
leg. Likely to have do it from
last. Maybe underneath. Mark Mac opted to #2 instead.
8
Dazzling Valley
Has some early speed if
Wrenn elects to use it, but stamina has been the major question. It would take a lot more to hang around
with these late.
Race 4 Selections 5-3-2-8
1
Ky All Star
Would take a lot of
improvement to hang with these. Not
tonight.
2
Cindy’s Flower
Went off as the odds on
favorite in last year’s $250k KYSS final, only to make a break in stride
behind the gate. Finally appears to be
heading in the right direction after the last two. Packs plenty of speed. ML chose over #3.
3
T B Beach Girl
The defending KYSS champ had
an absolutely brutal trip in her local debut from post 10, and somehow still
managed to pick a check up. Any
smoother journey puts her right in the mix.
Lachance opted to #2 instead.
4
Sandra’s onthebeach
Has been holding her own
against overnight company in Columbus,
but won’t be any day at the beach against this crew.
5
Keene Angelic
Appears to be in fine form
heading into KYSS action, and I must admit that the local AM effort was very
impressive under no encouragement.
Lands in perfect mid-pack post.
Big shot.
6
Hot Beach Girl
Never in it in an impossible
spot last time at Big M, and although this shouldn’t be quite as tough as
that crew, it may be a bit much still.
Pass.
7
Caribbean Girl
The KY Fair Champ has hooked
a tough group tonight, and she didn’t fire after sitting in the back off a
quick opening half last time. Needs
more. Smith opted to #5 instead.
8
Park Lane Crystal
A runner up to #7 after a
tough trip in KY Fair Final, but this filly fired back with an ultra
impressive score against overnight company.
Granted it wasn’t an overly tough field, but she is heading in the
right direction.
Race 5 Selections 6-4-7-1
1
Bugsy Malone
Nice AM effort over the
track for a colt that appeared to be having some problems in NY. Absolutely WIDE open behind the fav
here. Maybe.
2
Sgt Matt
I must admit that I was a
bit disappointed that he couldn’t hold off the filly last time in overnight
company, after the race set up perfectly for him as the heavy fav. She raced earlier, how did she do in
opener? Might be an indicator.
3
Call Me Mr P
Mr P came from way downtown
to finish up 3rd at Scioto last
time, and his 4th place finish in last year’s final helped him
pick up over $23k despite never hitting the board. One of many with a shot underneath.
4
Dragon Spike
Tried going down the road
last time at The Meadows as the fav, but was collared late in the mile. Not a bad effort, and I would expect Noble
to put him in play early. Might be in
line for a nice trip behind the fav.
5
Rodin
Doesn’t appear ready for
these. Pass.
6
Bolt The Duer
Became the fastest horse
EVER on a 5/8 track with his 47.4 win in the $500k Adios. Lands in a soft spot for his local
debut. Put a circle around him.
7
Heavenly Beaches
A winner in half of his
seasonal starts, he was remarkably claimed 2 starts back for $30k. New connections were happy enough to give
him a try against stakes company.
Maybe underneath.
8
He’s Shore Tan
Prior to the break last
time, he had held his own against overnight company in PA. Big step up here though.
Race 6 Selections 2-4-3-9 Start of the Pick 4 See ticket at the end
1
Holligram
Has been having some major
stamina issues recently against similar.
Would take a complete turnaround.
2
B Q Bull
I must admit that I was
fairly impressed with his 4th place finish last time, and note the
barn change that took place prior.
Lands in potentially an easier spot here. I’m on board.
3
Cloverdale
Broke in the midst of what
appeared to be a nice move last time, but I will point out that he is 0 for
25 LT. I will try him underneath
only.
4
Tickle Me Grace
Tried this mare out for the
win last time, and she put in a solid performance to finish 2nd at
a big number. Won’t get anywhere near
that price tonight. Trace gets the
call for the first time as well.
5
Diamond Deo
Q’fed against a couple of
nice colts, but would still have to find a lot more speed to hang with the
top ones.
6
Fort Riley
Not much success since
arriving locally. Pass.
7
Coyote’s Dream queen
Actually faired decent on
the KY Fair circuit earlier this summer, but she hasn’t been able to find her
rhythm since arriving locally. I’ll
wait until we see some improvement.
8
Blueridge Elisa
Far back against similar
company last time, and will likely be sitting far back from post 8 once
again.
9
Victoria Valley
Trotted evenly to finish 5th
behind a nice colt last week, and should find this spot a bit more to her
liking. Still going to have to find
some pop on the end of it.
10
Moma Jean’s Crown
Added lasix in the AM, but
has a tough assignment from way out here.
I’ll watch this one.
Race 7 Selections 4-10-8-3
1
Miss panderosa Jones
Outsprinted late in a quick
final quarter by her rivals in the Q’fer, but filly lands in a nice
comfortable spot for her 2nd LT start tonight from the pole. Should sit close. Maybe.
2
Jack N Water
An even effort in his first
local try, but would have to pick it up quite a bit here.
3
The Hit Lady
Has picked up some nice
checks recently against similar, lands in another field where she should be
close once again with her best effort.
4
Southern Strong
Filly didn’t really have
clearance down the lane in the last start, and raced very well to finish up a
close 4th. I think there is
some talent here. I’ll jump on board
once again.
5
Milburn
Hasn’t had much stamina in
his recent efforts. Would take a lot
more to hang around late.
6
Keene Destiny
Made two moves last start
and was still hanging in there after a tough first over trip at the head of
the lane, before tiring very badly late.
Hopefully she can end up with a smoother journey here. Your call.
7
Art’s Chance
Toured the oval from post 10
last time, and should continue to improve in his 3rd LT start
tonight. Not sure he is ready to take
on the top ones just yet though.
8
Real Party
South
Fla invader has held her own against similar at Pompano,
but has been off for nearly a month before tonight. I’ll try and beat her at what is likely to
be a short price.
9
Tundra
Improved in the Q’fer after
making a break, but lands in post 9 and is likely to be sitting far
back. I’ll watch another before
endorsing.
10
Blueridge Adalia
Absolutely sprinted away
from her rivals in the AM here, and appeared to have plenty left in the
tank. I would expect Hagerman to be on
the gas early from outside post.
Appears to have talent.
Race 8 Selections 5-9-8-1
1
Say It’s True
Got caught up in a big mile
against Open company, and now lands on the pole in stakes company. Appears to have solved breaking problems
with the move to the red clay. Shout
sit close.
2
Rapids N Currents
Solid effort to finish up 2nd
in the $32k Review stake at Springfield,
but I’m not convinced he is ready to hang with the top colts in here just
yet.
3
Red Falkor
Changed barns prior to the
last two Q’fying efforts, but appears to still have a long way to go to hang
with the favs in here.
4
Sweet Ben
Doesn’t appear to be a sweet
spot for Ben in only his 2nd LT start. Pass.
5
Enrico As
Managed to win on an off
track from post 10 against solid overnight company north of the border last
time, and appears to have really rounded into form recently. No question he fits with these. Must respect.
6
Joyeux Dream
Yet to miss the board in 4
LT tries, but this is a giant step up to take on some very nice colts. Would have to pick it up even more.
7
Shawneewind
Has been okay since arriving
locally, but not sure he can go with these just yet.
8
Louie the Fourth
Has been facing some tough
older rivals in overnight company at Indy, and appears to be a major player
in here as well. PW should be firing
out for good early position. Big
shot.
9
Awsome Valley
Razor sharp right now, and
is in the midst of a nice campaign where he has been victorious in 4 of 6
starts. Has nice tactical speed which
should give TS plenty of options. Should
be close.
Race 9 Selections 6-7-1-2
1
Charming Dream
Lightly raced gelding is
facing the toughest challenge of his brief career thus far, but he has been
very impressive at Mohawk. Lands in
tougher of 2 divisions, needs his very best.
2
Quel Bourbon
This guy quite honestly
spotted the field 30 lengths in his last start, and went an absolutely
unbelievable mile to end up 3rd.
I wish he had drawn in an easier spot, but he IS much better than he
looks on paper. Actually held off #6
in the AM Q’fer.
3
Zot
Chi-town invader ships in
for top connections, but lands in a very tough group. I’ll wait for a better spot.
4
Victor Crum
Off to a nice start in his
career, but this is asking a bit much for him to be ready to go with these in
my opinion.
5
Horizon Ridge
Completely wrapped up in his
1st LT win here last week, but is another that is taking a step up
to the major leagues for the first time.
Would take a lot more.
6
Fusion Man
Actually knocked off #7 here
in the fair after a perfect pocket trip.
Never been worse than 2nd in 5 starts this season, and has
certainly proven that he go with these.
Big shot.
7
Prayer Session
Defending KYSS champ got
roughed up against a nice older trotter in his last start, and tired a bit
late to finish 3rd. No
question he is the one to beat, but I’ll take a shot against him with a short
price looming for the win.
8
Master Host
Crushed a weaker field in
overnight, and has won 8 of 9 on the year.
A huge step up to take on stakes company, and lands in the tougher of
2 divisions. Not sure I can endorse
him against these.
9
Dusenberg
Reeled off 4 in a row after
finishing 3rd in his career debut.
He continues to improve with every start, and will have to improve
even more to be close from outside post here.
No question he is razor sharp though.
Race 10 Selections 4-8-2-7
1
Northern Cindy
Tough trip in Scioto overnight last time, and doesn’t appear to pack
the talent that her stablemate does in the other div. Has to find some more stamina to hang
around late. Noble opted to #2
instead.
2
Abby
A winner in 4 of 5 on the
season, and I must admit that she sprinted by her rivals fairly easily in her
only local start. Big step up to take
on stakes company, but she should be close with any similar effort.
3
Glad Glidings
Glided by and held off #9
for a win last time, but is another that is taking a big step up against
stakes company. Should continue to
improve. Your call.
4
Feel The Pressure
Looked good in local
overnight after adding the hobbles back, and reunites with PW for her 4th
start back on the year. Should be on
the right track now, and no question she will be on the lead. Catch her if you can.
5
Loveswept
Added lasix in the AM, and
finished up a distant 2nd behind a nice colt. I’ll watch for more improvement first.
6
Spitfire Rose
Would have to find a lot
more speed to hang with the top ones in here.
Pass. Noble opted to #2
instead.
7
Lindme yourvictory
Sat on #4’s back last time,
and it was really hard to tell if she could’ve gone by had she gotten
clearance. Either way a nice 3rd
place finish, and will likely leave in search of another good trip here. Your call.
8
Gisela As
Runner up in last year’s
$250k final added hobbles for her last two, and she has had some late kick
after getting away very sluggishly both times. No question she is the one to beat. Short price looming.
9
Vesper As
Looks like a tough spot, and
she has landed on the outside. Not a
good combo. Pass.
Race 11 Selections 4-6-7-3
1
Hawaiian Alibi
Hasn’t really fired in his
first two local tries, but appears to have landed in a wide open spot behind
the fav. Should sit close from the
pole. Noble opted here over #6.
2
Tricky Grin
Couldn’t get by #7 in here
last time after coming first over, and tired late to finish 5th. Hopefully can work out a smoother journey
from post 2, but still going to have to find some stamina late.
3
Hezason ofeclipse
Takes a drop into the $2.5k
claiming level for the first time, and will have to have a good finish here
in leg 2 to make the mini-series final.
Wake up call coming with the class drop? Maybe a live longshot.
4
Keystone Nite Hawk
Absolutely sprinted away and
dominated his rivals in the opening leg of the mini-series to equal his LT
mark, but was claimed that night and debuts for new connections here. Any similar effort should be good
enough.
5
Mor Storms Coming
Hasn’t had much to offer
against similar thus far and retains longshot status tonight. Pass.
6
Big City
Never got worked into the race
last time, and takes a significant drop to the $2.5k level here. Appears to do his best work from close to
the pace, should be blasting early. No
question he fits with these.
7
Heart’s Prince
In a meet where we have seen
some monumental upsets, this guy takes the cake! Fought willingly to pull off the 77-1
shocker last time keying off a $24,000 trifecta. I would hate to miss the party at that
price, and show up for the funeral here at short odds, but any similar effort
puts him squarely in the mix.
8
Broadway Fame
Tried taking the step up,
but is another dropper here and I think this level should be more to his
liking. Lands in a pretty solid crew
for the class though, I may wait for an easier spot. Stiltner opted here over #3.
9
Little Water Tower
Hasn’t been finishing up his
miles well recently, I’ll wait until we see some signs of life.
10
Cruise to Fame
Barn has had a couple of
bombers already this year, and this guy should be a pretty large number from
outside post here. Q’fed behind a nice
3yo colt. Almost 3 months off though,
I’ll watch one first.
Race 12 Selections 1-2-5-8
1
Blazing Tower
Probably the most WIDE open
race on the card, and this guy has proven he can go with these since arriving
locally. Should be in line for a nice
trip from the inside post. I’ll take a
flier.
2
Blueridge Hall
Really liked this guy a lot
last time, and I must admit that it was a rather dull effort after being set
up perfectly with a quick opening half.
Not sure I can endorse him off that.
3
Paul T
Needs to find a lot more pop
in the last quarter to hang around late.
Pass on Paul.
4
Under Act
Doesn’t appear to pack the
speed to hang with these.
5
Fox Valley Michael
Showed some improvement with
a nice runner up finish last week, and lands in the softer of 2 divs in a
perfect mid pack post. Picks up the
services of Noble as well. All
positive indicators.
6
Our Little Pilgrim
Chased the heavy fav in the
blowout mile last week, and was able to fend off his rivals late to hold 2nd. Not a bad try, and there is no KNH in
here. Your call.
7
Fortune Road
Followed #6 last time, and
had to settle for 3rd after he was unable to pass him late. Not sure things are going to get any easier
here.
8
Jaxx
12yo has been holding his own
since arriving locally, and is another in here with a big shot. Again, it’s absolutely wide open. Demand value with whomever you choose.
9
Ginnys doodle dandy
Tough task from post 9
against this crew, would have to pick it up quite a bit.
10
All is Saidand Done
Perfect trip last time which
resulted in an even 4th place finish. Slammed with post 10, but he fits with
these. Price should be right. Your call.
Race 13 Selections 1-10-6-5
1
In The Money
Drops into our bottom
condition for top barn, but has been on the shelf for over 3 months. Decent Q’fer behind a very nice 3yo
filly. Barn has been on a roll with
some nice priced winners. Live
longshot? I think so.
2
Bad Girlfriend
Got caught in an impossible
spot last time, and was 3rd against similar company in the prior
effort. Needs her very best.
3
Docdor Harvey
Toledo invader has had some stamina issues, and I will
watch him go around the big track once before hopping on board.
4
Mis conception
Has had some major stamina
issues lately. I’ll wait for some
signs of life.
5
Ashley Force
A decent even effort against
similar company in her first local start, and appears to be facing a much
weaker crew for this level tonight.
Maybe.
6
It’s Fun
Tired after a tough trip at
this level last week, and changes barns tonight. Will we see any further improvement
here? Possibly.
7
Sailors Sky
Lands in what appears to be
the softest spot he has faced since arriving locally. Should find this much more to his liking.
8
By The Sea Sally
Tired badly in her first
local try, and it would take a complete turnaround here. Not for me.
9
Scootnick Bodeen
Q’fed nicely to finish 2nd
behind a decent 3yo colt. Has had some
breaking problems in the past, but will likely be helped with the move to the
big track. Not an overly tough
group. Maybe.
10
Boodro
Got completely wiped out
behind a tiring horse in his first local try, and keep in mind this is only
his 3rd start back on the season.
His best effort would put him close.
Price is right. I’ll toss him
on the ticket.
Race 14 Selections 6-4-8-1-2 SUPER HI-FIVE CARRYOVER $871
1
Paradise Ragtime
Disappointed in his first
two local starts, but this guy IS much better than that. Barn had a win the other night at a BIG
price. Would have to pick it up quite
a bit though. Your call.
2
E R Prince Charmin
Arrived late on the scene
and nearly pulled off a big upset, coming up only a neck short at odds of
21-1. Lands back in a similar spot
here. Any similar effort puts him
close once again.
3
Sweetlittle heart
Appears to have landed in a
fairly tough group, I’ll wait for a better spot.
4
Unreal Appeal
Raced much better than I
gave her credit for last time, coming up only ¾ of a length short against a
solid field. Appears to be heading in
the right direction now. No question
the price will be appealing.
5
Theshadow nose

Takes a step up tonight and
appears to be in a bit tough. Not
tonight.

Had a tough trip against a
solid crew last time, and lands back in a much more comfortable spot
here. Only beaten a neck in the same
level 2 back. Big shot.

Closed from nowheresville to
be 2nd behind a heavy fav last week. That was a big improvement, and she will
need to follow it up with a similar effort to have a shot at the major awards
against these.

Never really threatened for
the win, but hung right with Open mares last time with a 27.3 kicker. Reunites with Noble tonight, and is likely
to be a short price. She has disappointed
here at short odds before.

Never in it in her first
local start. Q’fer was better, but
needs even more.

King’s Lightning

Made a break after running
into traffic trouble last time, but gets slammed with post 10 in against a
fairly solid group. Tetrick will have
to find a way to work him into the race.
