Red Mile Nightly Selections

Sunday, August 31, 2014

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                                 Selections                                                3-5-4

1

Wildcat Spirit

She looks to be buried against this crew, but there is a reason why we race them rather than spread the money out beforehand.  Worst case scenario for her is she finishes up 5th and collects $8,750 (5%).  Not a bad spot to be in.

2

Skeeter P

Doesn’t appear to pack the speed to hang with the top trio just yet.  Pass.

3

Arma trading

These 2 yr olds can improve or regress in a hurry, but this filly couldn’t have possibly looked any better in that last try.  Should continue to improve in her 3rd start over the track.  I’m on board.

4

Charity Hall

Couldn’t fend off her rivals down the lane in the last couple tries, and would need to find a bit more stamina to contend for top honors in my opinion.

5

Jane Eyre

A couple of successful starts over the track under her belt, and certainly appears to be the main threat to #3.  Must respect.

Race 2                                 Selections                                                5-1-3

1

Cinnabar Hall

Connections plunked down $50k last fall at the yearling sales for this guy, and it appears that investment will more than pay off as he is poised to cash in for a nice piece of this $175k.  No question the one to beat.

2

Joburg

Lost all chance with the break last time, and couldn’t keep up with #1 in the start prior.  Looks to be an outsider at this point.

3

Rompaway Hustler

Flashed some decent improvement last time with a solid 2nd place finish behind #1, and I would expect a similar try here.

4

Nothing But Good

Continues to struggle against these rivals.  Can’t endorse him tonight.

5

Hands

Absolute wild card in this spot, has made breaks in 5 of 6 LT starts, but I can tell you that he was going to give #1 all he could handle last week if he didn’t break stride at the top of the lane.  Should provide plenty of value, obviously he could break again and finish out of it completely.  Beware.

Race 3                                 Selections                                                6-10-1-5

1

Mighty McArthur

Pounced on his rivals here on Thursday en route to the easy victory, and has really rounded into form since arriving locally.  Any similar effort puts him in play once again.  Must respect.  Tetrick opted to #6 instead.

2

Taylor Finn

I was a bit disappointed with that last effort, tiring down the lane after having things her own way on the lead.  Will need to bounce back with a much better effort here to contend for any major awards.  Shehan opted here over #3.

3

Kentucky All Star

Wasn’t competitive in her only local start, and coming off a scratched ‘sick’ as well.  Not a good combination.  Pass.  Shehan opted to #2 instead.

4

Townes BrightLigt

Finished up a distant 3rd against similar company here on Thursday, but likely going to need to pick things up a bit to contend for the major awards still.

5

Daggy

Arrives into tonight off an average local Q’fer, but this guy has proven he packs the speed to hang with these in the past.  Anthrop barn makes 2014 debut, after being our co-leading trainer here in 2013.  Maybe.

6

Delightfully Mine

Really rounding the corner over her last couple of starts, and should continue to improve still in what is only her 7th career start.  Anything similar to that last effort should be enough to get the job done here.  Tetrick chose over #1.

7

Rosetta Star

Came up empty in her local debut, would have to find a LOT more to hang around with the top ones in here.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

8

Rokingcastle

I gave this guy a try last time, and he came up a disappointing 6th.  Needs to pick things up quite a bit still to make any major noise against this crew.

9

Bogey Buds

Lone 2yo continues to improve, parlaying a perfect trip into a 15-1 upset for his first career win here last week.  Lands back in a bit better group, but should fire out early to get a nice up close trip.  Your call.

10

Ponda Watts

Had some traffic trouble in that last start, and she was FLYING when she finally shook loose in the stretch drive.  Facing a tough assignment from way out here, but I’ll toss her on the ticket at what should be a nice price.

Race 4                                 Selections                                                2-1-6-5

1

Lumiere

Has been sharp since arriving locally for a barn that continues to fire on all cylinders.  Should sit on or close to the lead after landing on the pole here in short field.  Must respect.

2

Reckoning Day

Dug in for a gutsy win here in that last start, and transitions over to the claiming ranks tonight.  No question he is in career best form right now.  Looks like another spot where he should have some success.

3

Goldstar Patriot D

Much better effort here on Thursday, finishing up only a neck behind the heavy fav.  Lands in a deeper group here, but anything similar puts him in the mix.

4

Out of My Hands

Faded badly in his local debut, and we haven’t seen one of his better efforts in several weeks now.  Connections opt to leave him in at the same level, I’ll have to see some improvement before hopping on board.

5

Highland Hellion

Finished up evenly at this level last time, and finds himself in a touch easier spot tonight for this level as well.  I could only consider for the minor awards though.

6

Scoot Diablo

Fought willingly for a long way last time, before finally giving way to his rivals in deep stretch.  Continues to race very well locally, I would expect more of the same here.

Race 5                                 Selections                                                4-3-1-7

1

Markets Up

Trotted evenly in career debut, but still finished far behind #3 in a distant 4th place finish.  Should continue to improve, but I could only consider her for the minor awards still at this point.  Picks up the services of Campbell.

2

Skyway Pleasure

Added hobbles in the AM to finally stay trotting, but doesn’t appear to pack the speed to hang with this crew yet.  Pass.

3

Bewitching Beauty

Rounded the corner over the last couple of tries, including a dominant win here against similar company last time.  Any similar effort should put her in the mix once again.

4

Cedar Key

Very impressive to this point in her brief career, finishing up a fast closing 2nd against a solid 3yo in that last try.  Any further improvement should make her the one to beat.

5

Mantesse As

Making her career debut tonight, but hasn’t proven she packs enough speed to go with this crew just yet.  Pass.

6

B Flomo

Another first timer here that appears overmatched against this crew right now.  I’ll watch for improvement.

7

Talbot Hercules

Yet another first time starter, this one arriving into tonight after a decent local Q’fer.  Probably not ready to hang with the top ones, but certainly in play for the minor awards.

8

Forbidden Forest

Much improved effort here last time in a 3rd place finish behind #3, but not done any favors tonight after landing out in post 8.  I could consider him for the minor awards once again.

9

Informed Decision

IL invader has hit the board in 5 of 7 on the IL Fair Circuit, but appears to have landed in deep water for his local debut.  Not ready for these just yet.

Race 6                                 Selections                                                6-8-3                                    $10,000 Guaranteed Pick 4 Pool                                            See Ticket at the End

1

Professor Ray J

MN invader has been holding his own at this level at Running Aces, and lands on the pole tonight for his local debut.  Should sit close, I could consider him for the minor awards.

2

Noha

Racing evenly against similar company recently, but still appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

3

Powerful Odds

Finally lands in a spot where he should have some success here locally, and I would expect a more aggressive steer here as well.  Appears to be one of the main threats to #8.  Maybe.

4

Whitney Reanna

Came up empty against similar in Chicago, would take a complete turnaround here.  Pass.

5

Sweetlittle heart

Takes a step up tonight after a couple of average tries against lesser company, would have to pick things up quite a bit still to contend for any of the major awards.  Not tonight.

6

You Slay Me

Actually shows beating #8 back on 8-21 on the OH Fair Circuit, and should provide a fairly good price tonight in his local debut.  Purchased on Tuesday by new connections.  I’m willing to take a shot.

7

Looksgood onu

Appears to be overmatched against this crew.  Pass.

8

Awinkand agrin

Impossible journey here last time, yet still dug in down the lane to finish a close 2nd.  Lands in what appears to be easier crew here, any smoother journey should put him in play once again.  Big shot, but short price looming.

9

Presidential Sam

Has been holding his own against similar company here this season, and I could see him in play for the minor awards once again.  Your call.

10

CC Rei

PA invader has been ‘ok’ against bottom level claiming company at The Meadows, but is facing a tough assignment here in her local debut after getting slammed with outside post.  I’ll watch one first.

Race 7                                 Selections                                                4-9-5-1

1

Kabu

Had some traffic trouble down the lane here in that last try, before shaking loose late to finish 4th.  Not sure he is ready to contend for top honors, but a smoother journey should put him somewhere in the mix once again.  JC opted to #7.

2

High Seriousnes

Appears overmatched against this crew still.  Pass.

3

Victory Scene

Having major stamina issues in his last few tries, would have to find a LOT more and quickly.  Pass.

4

Samburu

Appeared to be back on track here last week in his first start adding the trotting hobbles, and should continue to improve here in only his 3rd try back on the season.  Should blast out and sit close once again.  Maybe.

5

Scacco Matto

HUGE effort in that last mile, nearly edging past #9 in deep stretch after getting parked every step.  Should be in line for a smoother journey here after landing in perfect mid-pack post.  Major player.

6

Sorrento Hall

Not sure what has happened since arriving locally, but the train has went off the tracks for whatever reason.  Will provide some value tonight, but still going to need to pick things up quite a bit.

7

Hey Pancho

Put together a decent late rally to pick up 5th in the last try, but likely still asking a bit much for him to contend for any major awards against these.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Campbell opted here over #1.

8

Maple Grove Joe

No threat last time against this crew, and I don’t see things getting any easier for him here.  Pass.

9

Tinder

Never worse than 2nd in 8 career starts now, no question this guy is the one to beat heading into tonight’s big money final.  Won’t be easy from way out here, will need his very best once again.

10

Groton Party

Hasn’t been anywhere close to the party to this point, appears overmatched once again.

Race 8                                 Selections                                                7-2-4-5

1

Cupcake N Cashmere

Finished far back in her only local appearance, would have to find a LOT more to hang with these still.  Pass.

2

Rock N Kilo

Has been knocking on the door at this level recently, and lands on the inside in a spot where it appears she should have some success once again.  Likely looking to save ground early and pounce late.

3

Knob Hill Shooter

Has shown some improvement here locally in his last couple of tries, and finally lands some post relief tonight in what should be a softer spot.  His best effort puts him in the mix here.

4

Fox Valley Rebel

Was going to be VERY close last week if he hadn’t had some traffic troubles up the inside late, eventually getting DQ’d for going inside pylons.  Could provide some value to those exotic tickets.

5

Blue Spanx

Put together a big first over effort here last week, sprinting clear of his rivals down the lane en route to the victory.  Facing what appears to be a bit tougher group for the level, but anything similar should put him close.

6

Feel This

OH Fair invader should improve with the stretch out to the big track, but appears to have landed in a tough spot for his local debut.  I’ll watch one first.

7

IGetaGood Feeling

Got caught up in a big mile last time at Hoosier, and arrives locally to take on a MUCH softer group in her 2nd start for new barn.  Major class relief, I’ve got a good feeling that will wake her up a bit.

8

Springhouse Ms Mac

Hasn’t proven she packs enough speed for these just yet.  Pass.

9

Stevia Hanover

Absolutely perfect trip following up #5 last time, but could only manage the runner up spot.  Lands way out in post 9 tonight, in what appears to be a better group as well.  I could only consider her for the minor awards.

10

Always a Tiger

The Tiger never threatened in his seasonal debut, and I don’t think things are going to get any easier from way out here.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

Race 9                                 Selections                                                4-5-8-9

1

Smoke Rings

No threat against similar company last time at Balmoral, would have to find a LOT more to hang with these.  Pass.

2

Springhouse Rebel

Sharp wire to wire win last time on the drop down, for the 7yo who is in career best form right now.  Steps back up to face better company, but anything similar puts him in the mix.

3

Leaf Nation

Had an absolute perfect 2nd over trip following live cover in that last try, but could only manage to finish a dull 4th.  Hasn’t come close to matching that effort from 8-3 recently.  Needs more.

4

SoMuch CoolerOnline

No question he was facing a weaker crew last time and had a perfect trip on top of it, but I must say he looked VERY good, sprinting clear from his rivals under no urging.  I’m on board.  Page opted here over #’s 5 & 8.

5

Fudge

Holding his own against some tough overnight rivals in Cleveland recently, and appears to have landed in a fairly manageable spot for his local debut.  No question he fits with these.  Page opted to #4 instead.

6

HowDoIDream Without

MN invader appears to be taking a sizeable step up for her local debut, and I would be shocked if she was ready to go with this group.  I can’t dream up a scenario for her to contend for the major awards.

7

Silent Partner

Took an aggressive shot from post 10 here last time, and expectedly tired a bit late.  Should land a smoother journey, but still going to need his absolute very best.

8

Major Bet

Endured some major traffic trouble down the lane last time, and had plenty of pace when he finally shook loose late.  Assuming he gets a clean trip with clear sailing, he should be somewhere in the mix.  Page opted to #4 instead.

9

What’sitto youtwo

Solid effort to finish up a close 2nd after being used HARD at this level last time.  Wasn’t done any favors after landing way out in post 9, but is yet another with a big shot here.

10

Bongo

I tried him last time, and quite honestly he just wasn’t good enough in a close 5th place finish.  Things aren’t going to get any easier after getting slammed with post 10.  Pass.

Race 10                              Selections                                                1-6-5-3

1

Corsica Hall

Skipped the second leg of KYSS action, and got caught on the lead here on a heavy track against the bias on 8-10 in the Opening Leg.  I expect him to fire back with a much better effort here.  I’m on board.

2

Brother Dan

Appears overmatched against this crew.  Pass.

3

Bestbe straight

Has shown some late pop to rally for victories in both of the preliminaries, and arrives into tonight as a deserving favorite off of those tries.  Very competitive crew, I’ll look for some value elsewhere.

4

Teahouse Hall

Continuing to improve with each start, but appears to be a notch or two below the top ones still.  I could consider him for the minor awards only.

5

McEnroe Hall

Gutsy effort last time, nearly fending off his rivals down the lane after being used hard early.  One of several with a big shot here.  Maybe.

6

Straighton Liberty

Very impressive first over effort here last time, inching past #5 late only to be mowed down by his stablemate (#3) in the final stride.  No question he is heading in the right direction.  Lots to like.

Race 11                              Selections                                                3-1-2-6

1

Dress for Success

Sprinted by her rivals down the lane for an easy victory here last time, and barn has her peaking at just the right time.  Lands on the pole, any similar effort puts her very close.

2

Petticoat Affair

Defending KYSS Champ has improved in both starts thus far in ’14, and I guess the question is how much will she continue to improve here in her 3rd try?  We know she has the talent.  Must respect.

3

Twice Too Nice

Purchased as a yearling for a mere $1,400, she certainly owes her connections nothing at this point.  A couple of solid efforts in the prelims, she has proven she can go with these.  Should provide some value.  Lots to like.

4

Ella Teel

Purchased for $5,200 on Tuesday at auction, and new connections get a chance to go for the big money here in a quick turnaround.  Still not sure she is ready to go with this group though.  Pass.

5

Gliding Princess

No threat against this crew, hard to see things getting any easier here.  Pass.

6

KJ Brenda

Perfect trip last time against this bunch, but could only manage an even 5th place finish.  No question that was an improved effort, but would still need to pick things up to make any major noise.

7

Sister Star

A couple of 4th place finishes in the prelims, and that is about the best I could expect from her once again tonight after landing on the far outside.  Tough assignment.

Race 12                              Selections                                                1-3-7-2

1

Cielle

Continues to impress, with back to back wins against this crew and now 6 wins in 8 career starts.  Absolutely romped last time, lands on the pole tonight with big money on the line.  Should be all systems go once again.

2

Third Sue

I was a bit disappointed with her effort last time, flattening out for 4th down the lane.  Nonetheless, she appears to be in play for the minor awards once again.

3

Makeba Hall

Extremely rough gaited in the latter stages of both of her local efforts, before finally making a full break in stride in the stretch drive of the last try.  Public continues to support her heavily, but she still needs to prove it.  Maybe.

4

MissTwinklins Jones

No threat in either prelim, appears overmatched once again.  Pass.

5

Third Tan

Appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here still.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

6

Mama’s Home

Finished up a short nose behind #3 last time in the 2nd place photo, and will likely be looking to put together a similar off the pace rally tonight.  Has hit the board in 9 of 10 thus far.

Race 13                              Selections                                                1-5-2-6

1

On Golden Ponder

Made quick work of his rivals here in both preliminary legs, and should continue to improve here in only his 3rd start back of the season.  Has some major stakes engagements left on his schedule this fall, no question the one to beat.

2

Proceed to Party

Finished up a dull 5th against this crew last time, but should end up sitting much closer here after landing on the inside.  Appears to be one of several in play for the minor awards in behind the fav.

3

Doc’s Hobo

Purchased on Tuesday for $5,200, and connections opt to take a shot here for the big money in their first try with him.  Barn has been on a roll recently, but it would take a LOT of improvement to put this guy in play.  Not for me.

4

First Frost

A couple of even 4th place finishes in behind #1 here in the prelims, and I would expect something similar here.  Should continue to improve in only his 4th LT start.

5

Last Best Chance

Stamped himself as second best here last week in behind #1, as he put in a solid effort to finish well clear of his other rivals.  He pulled off an upset in this same event last year, looking to find that magic once again.

6

Sir Barton

MUCH improved effort here last week, finishing up a decent 3rd in behind the heavy fav.  Likely blasting out once again, and anything similar puts him in the mix.

Race 14                              Selections                                                6-5-1-3

1

All Charged Up

Not on the same level as the 2 favs, but I think she is clearly 3rd best at this point.  Should be aided with a nice trip after landing on the pole.

2

Magical Bestern

Appears overmatched against these still.  Pass.

3

Sorority Girl

Very impressive first over try here last time, hanging on to finish 4th after the brutal trip.  I would expect her to finish in a similar spot here, not sure she can go with the top 3 still.  Minor awards only.

4

Best Legacy

Purchased for $5,500 at auction on Tuesday, and is another quick turnaround for connections looking to take a shot at the big money.  Would take a LOT of improvement still for her to go with these.

5

Somethin Incredible

Defending champ has been 2nd best to #6 in both prelims, and will try to turn the tables on her rival tonight with the big money on the line.  All things equal, I think she is likely 2nd best once again.

6

Rollin Deep

Loved her last time, and she put in a big late rally to edge past #5 in the stretch drive.  Ultra-impressive in 2 local starts, she has stamped herself as the one to beat.  I’m on board once again.

7

Caribbean Jewel

Finished up a decent 3rd in behind the 2 favs in the Opening Leg, but did not look comfortable here last time before eventually making a break in stride.  Hard to jump on board after seeing that.

Race 15                              Selections                                                4-2-1-5

1

Deo Gloria

Flashed some wicked speed here last week in a down the road effort, only to tire in deep stretch to finish a close 4th.  Should dictate the terms here in short field after landing on the pole in what appears to be easier group.  Big shot.

2

Platinum Spirit

Not sure what happened in $33k stake last time in Indy, but had been holding her own against some tough overnight rivals in OH prior.  Knocked off the $22k Hanover stake in Chicago on 7-12.  She fits with these.

3

Mach Made Her

Not sure she packs the speed to hang with the top ones, facing a tough assignment here in her local debut.  Pass.

4

That’s Mara

I would check and see how barn has done with the MN invaders to this point tonight, but assuming things have gone well, this mare appears to be well spotted in her local debut.  Her best effort puts her in play here.  BK chose over #6.

5

So Jazzy

Razor sharp earlier this summer in Columbus, but arrives into tonight after some sickness issues and over 2 months on the shelf.  Likely going to need a start before we get her best effort.

6

Dream Roll

Arrives into tonight off 3 consecutive victories in Chi-town, but facing a test for class here at our top level.  Probably asking a bit much for her to contend for the major awards.  Kramer opted to #4 instead.

Race 16                              Selections                                                6-7-5-2

1

SD Flight Plan

Looks to have landed in a deep crew for his first local try, and is going to need his absolute very best even after landing on the pole.  I’ll watch one first.

2

McBlack

Transitions over to the claiming ranks tonight, after several solid efforts in the conditioned ranks to begin his local campaign.  One of several with a shot in WIDE open affair.  Page opted here over #3.

3

Barbra Carol Lynn

Nearly lasted on the lead here last time, before being mowed down in the final strides by #9.  Appears to be facing a much tougher group tonight at this level, would have to pick things up even more.  Page opted to #2 instead.

4

Tonights the Night

NY invader was purchased at auction for $3k on Monday, and connections opt to try him in for a $5k tag for his local debut.  Appears to fit with this crew on paper, not quite sure what to expect.  Your call.

5

Hanks Kid

A couple of solid 2nd place finishes to begin his local campaign, plenty of options tonight after landing in a perfect mid-pack post.  His best effort should put him in play once again.  One of many with a shot in WIDE open crew.

6

Cheyenne Knight

Indy invader has been in over his head at Hoosier for the $8k tag, but should find this level much more to his liking.  Plenty of backclass here with over $372k in the bank.  I’m willing to hop on board.

7

Fox Valley Largo

Never worse than 2nd in 4 local tries, and steps back up in class tonight to face what appears to be his toughest test here on the season thus far.  Any similar effort puts him squarely in the mix once again.

8

Become Legendary

Rallied from far back to finish a close 4th at this level last time, but lands in what appears to be an even better group tonight.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

9

Big Bear Bow

Think you have a busy schedule?  This guy is making his 5th start tonight in the last 17 days.  I would have to think all that work would have to catch up with him at some point.  Won’t be easy from way out here.

10

Cocomara

Arrives into tonight off a decent Q’fer at Hoosier, but we haven’t seen him in action now for over 50 days.  Slammed with outside post as well.  I would see how barn has done to this point, but appears to be in a tough spot w/this one.

Race 17                              Selections                                                3-5-9-6-2                           20-Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Bordo Bay

Chicago invader was purchased on Tuesday at auction for $4k, and appears to have landed in a fairly tough group for his local debut.  Would have to improve quite a bit for new barn to hang with these.  Your call.  Page chose over #8.

2

Noah C

Barn had a win here on Thursday night, and Noah has had some success here in the past.  Appears to be facing tough crew though tonight, I could consider him for the minor awards only.  Noble opted here over #4.

3

Doc’s Zippy

Columbus invader takes a significant drop down tonight, and looks to be primed and poised for a big effort here in his local debut.  Has been facing much tougher recently at Scioto.  I like him a lot.

4

Fsolatdo Bluegrass

Nearly lasted on the lead last time at this level, but appears to be facing far better group tonight.  Would have to pick things up quite a bit to make any major noise against this crew.  Noble opted to #2 instead.

5

Rock of Luck

Has been chasing some tough rivals locally to this point, and gets some MAJOR class relief tonight.  No question he is the main threat to #3, he certainly fits with these.

6

OhMyBelle

Raced a bit better in an even 5th place finish last time, but we are still yet to see her best effort since arriving locally.  Anything similar to that last try should put her in play for the minor awards on the slight class drop here.

7

Milano Grande

Ultra-consistent since arriving locally, with 4 consecutive 3rd place finishes at this level.  Appears to be facing a better group tonight though in my opinion, would need her absolute very best to keep that streak alive.

8

Special Spy

OH invader has shown some improvement since adding Lasix for new barn at Scioto, but still likely asking a bit much for him to hang with this crew.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Page opted to #1 instead.

9

Branko

Returned to the races firing on all cylinders for his ’14 debut, nearly lasting on the lead before tiring in deep stretch.  Should continue to improve off that try, but won’t be easy from way out here.

10

Fly to the Angels
