Red Mile Daily Selections

Sunday, October 9th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                1-6-5-2

1

Chapter Seven

Lightly raced colt looked sensational here in the AM, and keep in mind that was a pretty nice filly he was Q’fying against.  He has shown up for the big money events recently, and looks like the fresh threat here.

2

VC Chocoholic

Followed #6 in the first heat of the KY Futurity last week, but couldn’t keep up with him late.  Maybe a notch below the favs in here, but looks to have a big shot at the minor awards.

3

For You Almostfree

Regally bred colt out of the champion racemare Pizza Dolce trotted evenly in the LC ranks here last week.  Doesn’t appear to pack the speed to go with the top two, but one of several with a shot underneath.

4

Spectator K

Removed hobbles since arriving locally and it seems to have solved the breaking issues.  Taking a big step up to take on the best of the best here though.  I’ll wait for an easier spot.

5

Mythical Hall

Blasted from outside post on Jug Day at Delaware, and nearly lasted on the lead in there at a nice price.  Should be able to get away well here and potentially sit behind #6.  Might work out well.  DM opted here over #7.

6

Broad Bahn

$1.5 million Hambo Champ couldn’t fend off his rivals late in either KY Futurity heat last week, but still put in a couple of nice efforts.  Looks like a two horse race in here along with #1.

7

Burnin Money

I am pretty good at doing precisely that.  Gelding added lasix here in the AM, and appeared to put in a sharp effort.  Tough task taking on top colts here this afternoon though.  I’ll pass.  DM opted to #5 instead.

8

Whit

No luck taking on the top ones in the KY Futurity last week, and I’m starting to think he may have tailed off a bit.  Hooks back up with his old pilot here, and is another with a shot at the minor awards.

Race 2                     Selections                                6-7-2-5

1

Fortune Road

Didn’t have the best fortune to draw in against this crew in his final local appearance of 2011.  Looks to be in a bit over his head here.

2

Feys Blitzen Grey

KY’s version of the ‘Grey Gladiator’ here, and it was only a couple of years ago that he was going with the top horses on the grounds.  Looks a step behind the two favs right now, but look for the flying white streak late.

3

Save Your Best

Doesn’t seem right that a maiden is taking on some big money veterans, but that’s just what we have here.  Packs plenty of early speed, but she would need to find a LOT more stamina to hang with these.

4

Rego Park

No luck last week, and has hooked a MUCH tougher crew here.  Not today.

5

Ab’s Beach Boy

Crafty Red Mile veteran has had plenty of success over this oval as well, but lands in quite the shark tank here.  Certainly in the mix for the minor awards behind the top two.

6

I’m Feelin Good

Absolutely dominant in his last few starts, and Sears never even flipped the switch in his last couple of KYSS events here.  Needs his very best to take out #7, but he’s RAZOR sharp right now.  Sears opted here over #7.

7

Nob Hill High

Raced evenly with a tough first over trip in top Indy class last time, and will likely be coming from off it again in here.  No question #6 will be the one he is chasing.  I like it ICE COLD 6-7!  Sears opted to #6 instead.

Race 3                     Selections                                1-3-5-6

1

Hey Mister

Picked up a couple of nice checks in the KY Filly Futurity last week, and fortunately for her, she gets to dodge every one that beat her in there.  Appears to have landed in a comfortable spot, and any similar effort makes her the one to beat.

2

Brooklyn

Put in a decent effort to finish 3rd behind a couple of nice fillies in the $175k NYSS Final at The Spa last week.  Steps up to take on a solid crew here, but things appear to open up behind the favorite.

3

Lost Symbol

Didn’t appear to like the idea of two heats last week, but still picked up a check in both events.  Should get a smooth journey in smaller field here, and picks up Pierce as well.  Must respect.

4

Love N Hate

Very rare to see a maiden in a 3yo event like this, but she actually put in a solid effort to finish only a neck behind a very good 2yo last time.  I suspect she has more talent than what we’ve seen, but needs a LOT more for these.

5

Sashay

Proved that she had some talent when she first got rolling up at The Big M earlier this season, but ran into some breaking problems in the big money events.  Has yet to miss the board when she stays trotting this year, and appears to be over those issues since arriving locally.  I can make a case here.

6

Seducedbychocolate

Got nailed on the very last jump to the wire in her only local start, but had rounded into form quite nicely towards the end of The Big M season.  Needs her very best against these.

 Race 4                     Selections                                7-3-5-2

1

Don’t Think Twice

Absolutely blew by the front end in a career best performance in the overnight here last Sunday, but lands in a solid crew of stakes fillies here.  Going to need even more to hang with these.

2

Pantholops

Came back to make a break at the half in the second heat last week, but has held her own against some nice fillies this season.  Should sit close once again in here, and maybe hang around for a nice piece late.

3

Cedar Dove

KY Filly Futurity Champ won in straight heats last week, and she seems to really get over this track well.  Still going to need her best in here, hooks back up with the runner-up for another rematch.  Pierce chose over #7.

4

Miss Sue V

Held her own against some nice fillies on the NYSS circuit, but steps up to take on the best of the best here in open stakes action.  Won over this track last year at a nice price, and will provide plenty of value once again.

5

Bold and Fresh

$750k Hambo Oaks Champ returned to the mile track and put in a couple of very nice late rallies to finish 2nd behind #3.  I would expect a similar journey here, and that will be the one to catch this afternoon as well.

6

Birthday Bonus

Didn’t have much to offer against LC company last week, and steps up to take on a tough crew here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

7

Lady Andover

Hard to knock a filly riding a 4-race win streak, including a LT mark two back and an absolutely dominate performance on Juggette Day at Delaware.  Should provide plenty of value and a fresh threat against these.

Race 5                     Selections                                2-6-3-5

1

Intervention

Raced evenly in stakes company last week, and lands back in what should be an easier crew here in LC ranks.  Lands on the pole, but still going to need his very best.

2

I Like Dreamin

Finished 2nd behind what is probably the nicest colt in the country 2 starts back in the $106k Elevation at Indy, and then came out to a blowout win against similar in his first local start.  Big shot.

3

Release the Terror

Followed #2 up in the flow last time, but could only manage to be 3rd.  Appears to have landed in a fairly competitive crew here, but still going to need his very best.  YG opted to #6 instead.

4

Dragon Ridge

No luck against stakes company last week, but it appears he has landed in against another solid crew here in LC action as well.  Would need a lot more to hang with the top ones in here.  Lachance opted here over #7.

5

Carol’s Comet

Couldn’t handle the stakes colts last week, and drops back into what should be an easier spot here.  Still would have to find a lot more to hang with these.  DM chose here over #8.

6

Dick McTracy

Raced evenly against a very tough crew last time, and is yet another plunging into the LC ranks here.  Should find this spot much more to his liking.  Must respect.  YG opted here over #3.

7

Rock N Roll Legend

Regressed into a couple of breaks recently, and I’m not sure I can endorse him in here with that in mind.  Would need a complete turnaround.  Lachance opted to #4 instead.

8

Upfront Long Shot

Showed some improvement in his first local start last time, but would still need a LOT more to go with the top ones in here.  Not tonight.  DM opted to #5 instead.

Race 6                     Selections   7-1-2-3                    Start of $10,000 Pick 4                          See ticket at the end

1

Big Rigs

Ended up with a couple of nice 3rds in both heats of KY Futurity, and he lands on the pole here in what appears to be a much softer crew.  Should sit close.

2

Luckycharm Hanover

Never really fired off a couple of perfect trips in Futurity action last week, but still trotted evenly against a solid field.  Appears to have landed in a much more comfortable spot here.  Maybe.

3

Marcus Bi

Lightly raced gelding has never been worse than 2nd in 7 LT starts, but steps up to take on a solid bunch in stakes action here.  Local Q’fer was nice, but still going to have to prove he can hold his own against these.

4

Live Jazz

Plenty of talent here, but colt appears to be difficult to control and certainly looks to have a mind of his own.  No question he has the ability, but I would demand plenty of value if you like him.

5

Opening Night

Opening Night trying to get the job done on closing night this afternoon.  Lands in a much more manageable spot here, but still going to need his very best to make any major noise against these.

6

Can Anyone Explain

I caught this guy in his only win earlier this year at Woodbine at a BIG price.  Has held his own against overnight company in Canada, but a tough task to take on some nice colts here.  Not today.

7

Fawkes

Put in a nice effort in the 2nd heat last week, trotting evenly on the end of it after being shuffled to finish 5th.  Any similar effort should put him right back in the mix here.

8

Evil Urges

Very tough trip on an off track in $175k NYSS final at The Spa last time, but still went a huge mile to finish 2nd in there.  Taking a big step up here, but looks to be sharp right now.

 Race 7                     Selections                                10-6-5-1

1

Just Crowned

Took a brutal shuffle around the far turn last week, as the front end suddenly collapsed in front of him.  Had some pace when he finally shook loose, and any smoother journey puts him in the mix here.  YG chose over #6.

2

Real or Magic

Chi-town invader has raced evenly against overnight company recently, and lands in a very competitive field for his first local start of the season.  Got very good here last year.  Maybe.

3

Doc’s Leopard King

Rode the pylons and raced evenly against a similar crew last week, and established a new LT mark in the prior effort at Indy.  Looks to be wide open in here, but would need his very best.

4

Lightning Strike

Took a pretty good shuffle in the last mile behind #1, but didn’t appear to have nearly as much pace when he finally found clearance late.  Not today.

5

Upfront Ellijay Ed

Unleashed a wicked late kick last week to close nicely to be 3rd.  Lands in a perfect mid-pack post here, and I would expect another big rally late.  Pierce opted to #10 instead.

6

Morgan Shark

Has been facing some high level overnight company in Chicago, and lands in a very competitive crew for his first local start.  Needs his very best, but he fits with these.  YG opted to #1 instead.

7

EJ’s Pocket Rocket

Got caught in the back off a slow opening half last week, but still appears to be a notch below the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for an easier spot.

8

Shellysblockbuster

Followed the eventual winner in there last week, and nearly wore him down in deep stretch.  No question this guy is in career best form, and any similar effort puts him close once again.

9

Hacienda

Raced evenly against a solid crew last week, but gets stuck with post 9 against another competitive bunch here.  Not sure I like how things set up for him today.

10

Rhombus

Rode the pylons to finish up a decent 3rd in stakes company last week, and he has proven he can go with some nice horses thus far.  Lands on the far outside today, but should be a major player here.  Pierce chose over #5.

Race 8                     Selections                                5-7-1-4

1

Something for Doc

Used hard to make the lead in stakes company last week, and took a brutal shuffle on the far turn before shaking loose late.  Appears to have landed in a fairly wide open spot behind the fav.  Maybe.

2

Fashion Delight

Absolutely loved this guy last year, but he has obviously had his problems in making it back to the races this season.  Put in a nice AM effort, but has been on the shelf for over 3 months.  Needs his very best.

3

Sir Ziggy’s Z Tam

Held his own against some nice colts on the NYSS circuit, but steps up to take on some of the best ones in the country in open stakes company here.  Should sit close early.

4

Westwardho Hanover

Impressive debut for new barn last time, and he looked like he might be in the midst of pulling off a shocking upset for a couple of moments.  Any similar effort should put him close once again.

5

Alsace Hanover

Has been facing some tough older horses in top overnight events in Canada, and stone cold closer should be able to sit in perfect striking range here in the small field.  No question the one to beat.  Pierce opted here over #1.

6

Samandar

Another that has held his own against NYSS colts, and lands in what appears to be a fairly wide open division behind the fav this afternoon.  Needs his very best.

7

Feel Like a Fool

Tough first over trip last week into the eventual winner, but was able to dig in gamely down the lane to hold 4th.  Has always raced well over this track, and any smoother journey puts him in the mix once again.

Race 9                     Selections                                6-10-7-2

1

Forty Four Magnum

Had a big win here last year in his freshman season, but appears he would need a lot more ammunition to hang with the top colts in here at this point.  Tetrick opted to #7 instead.

2

Camgrandest

Not sure what has happened to one of my favorites the last couple of starts.  Went a career best mile to finish a game 2nd in $250k KYSS final, but hasn’t been himself since adding lasix.  Your call.

3

He’s the Bomb

Appears to be in a bit over his head, and he will be a bomb in here.  Pass.

4

Major Tipper

Big first over effort last week, but he lands in what might be an even tougher group here.  Going to need his very best to go along with a smoother journey.  Maybe.

5

Chocolate Shake

Raced evenly against overnight company in Indy recently, but lands in a tough division for his first local start this afternoon.  Only 1 for 20 LT, needs more.

6

Mysterious Moment

Liked this guy to get part of it last time, and he had a VERY troubled trip but was still able to shake loose late and come flying to finish up behind #10.  Has been a different horse since arriving locally.  Must respect.

7

American Romance

Big first over effort to get the job done as the heavy fav last week, but will need his very best once again today.  Lands back in a very competitive crew.  TT opted here over #’s 1 & 8.

8

Bestinthebusiness

Got away with some leisurely fractions on the front last time, but had to settle for 3rd behind #’s 6 & 10 in here.  Things aren’t going to get any easier in here this afternoon.  TT opted to #7 instead.

9

Laurent Hanover

Followed #8 the entire way last time, but couldn’t keep up with the top ones late.  Ends up in post 9 today, and I don’t see things getting any better.

10

Melvyn

How can you not like this guy?  Absolutely razor sharp all season long regardless of what state or country he is racing in for that matter.  Likes to win, 7 for 18 on the year.  BIG effort last week.

 Race 10                   Selections                                5-4-3-6

1

American Arena

Not sure what happened in overnight last time, but he would need a complete turnaround to make any major noise against this crew.  Pass.

2

Rollwithitharry

Harry raced evenly in Delaware, and has held his own against some top colts all season long.  Lands in a fairly stacked up crew here though.  Will need his very best to roll with these.

3

Foreclosure

Took the battle to #5 in here last week, but ended up tiring badly late after the tough trip.  Certainly good enough to beat these when he is at his best, but needs a big rebound this afternoon.

4

Up the Credit

Very nice effort to come flying late to finish up a nice 2nd behind the Jug Champ, after being shuffled back last week.  Any smoother journey puts him very close once again.

5

Hugadragon

How good was this guy last week?  A HUGE front end masterpiece to blowout a solid group of colts under WRAPS.  YG should blast right to the top once again.  Catch him if you can.

6

Wind Me Up

Didn’t get wound up at all last week after making an early break, and he lands back in against solid company here.  Would take his very best punch.

7

Lookinforadventure

Got a perfect pocket ride behind #5 last week, but was no match for him late.  Still able to pick up a nice 2nd, but hooks a solid crew here and lands on the outside.  Would need even more today.

Race 11                   Selections                                4-8-9-7

1

Always an Optimist

MI invader has missed a month coming into today, but does show a big win from Hazel earlier this season.  I’m an optimist, but I still can’t see him making much noise in here.

2

Little Nicky B

Nicky obviously has some talent, but he also has a lot of breaking issues.  Hard to endorse him today.

3

Blueridge Wildcat

This is wildcat country, but this guy stopped badly after making an aggressive move to the top last week.  Would take a LOT more to make any major noise against these.  JJ opted here over #6.

4

Divulge

Wow!  This guy took ALL kinds of early tote action last time, and he came out and backed up the talk with a HUGE effort.  Unleashed a 25.4 final panel to hold off the late charge of his stablemate.  Talented colt!

5

Abbeylara

Raced evenly against #4 last time, and appears to be one of several with a shot at the minor awards in here.  Any similar effort should put him in the mix.

6

Heavenly Beaches

KY sired gelding hasn’t had much to offer in his only local starts, and would need a complete turnaround today.  I’ll pass.  JJ opted to #3 instead.

7

Bettorwithbourbon

Everything is better with bourbon here in Kentucky, and this guy rallied nicely to finish 3rd last time.  Continues to improve with each LT start, and looks like one of many that could finish underneath the fav.

8

Wrubellious

Didn’t have anything to offer in stakes company last time, but raced big in the prior overnight at Pocono.  Has held his own against some top colts this season, and his best would put him close in here.

9

Rockin Finish

Big effort in the stake last week, but couldn’t hold off the first over charge of SB late.  Still beaten less than 3 lengths, and hooks a much easier crew in LC ranks today.  Should blast to the top for JC.
