Red Mile Race Reviews
Sunday, August 12th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 2-5-3-4
1
Rose Run Monica
Monica hasn’t had much pop
in her most recent efforts, but may improve stretching out to the bigger
track tonight. Still going to need to
pick it up quite a bit to go with the top ones in here.
2
Feel the Pressure
Added hobbles for the Q’fer
and appeared to hang on fairly easily.
Has made breaks in both of her 3yo starts, hopefully those will help
her mind her manners. Should be close
if she trots.
3
Lindmeyour victory
A couple of wrapped up
dominant wins to kick off the meet for this filly, and that should make her
the one to beat. A fairly competitive
group here though, still needs her very best effort.
4
Floating Ivy
Has held his own against
similar company in Indy, and appears to fit well with these. Might be worth a try here at what should be
a decent price.
5
Patty Says So
Very impressed by Patty’s
first local try, coming up just ¾ length short of beating the fav that night. Did finish behind #2 in the Q’fer back on
7-31. Big shot.
6
Moreagio
Would take a lot more-agio
to go with these. Pass.
7
Long’s Sunshine
Mare has been facing Open
company down at Bluegrass, and has been
holding her own. Takes a decent drop
down here, but this didn’t come up easy by any means. I’ll watch one over the big track
first.
8
S M’s Terminator
Took a lot of action at the
windows on opening night and got pressed early which resulted in him tiring
badly late. Will probably get off at a
big number after that, but we can’t use them all.
9
Sand Allistar
The only trotter in the
field for the money condition, which resulted in him drawing the outside
post. Tough task lying ahead from way
out here. I’ll wait for a better spot.
Race 2 Selections 1-3-9-2
1
Park Lane Crystal
Very game effort to finish
only a neck back in $8.5k KY Fair Final, and this filly appears to have
really rounded the corner in her last couple.
Looks like a nice spot here, I like her a lot. Loney opted here over #3.
2
Charismatic Kelsey
Kelsey looked sharp earlier
this summer at Hoosier, but made a couple of breaks and was dropped in for a
tag in her last start where she finished last. Not an overly tough group, but she doesn’t
appear to be headed in the right direction.
3
Billtown Road
Went missing for almost a
year exactly and showed back up with a nice runner up finish to a decent mare
in the morning work. Probably will be
handled a bit conservatively off the layoff, but should be close.
4
Towne Believer
A decent effort here on
Thursday, but this may be a better field than she faced there. Going to have to find some late kick.
5
Milburn
Has had some stamina issues
down at Bluegrass, going to need a lot more
to go with these.
6
It’s True
Lone 2yo in the field shows
a decent local Q’fer but she is probably not seasoned enough to take on a
group like this just yet. True
story.
7
Already Spent
Never had an ounce of pace
on opening night against similar.
Would take a complete turnaround.
No thanks.
8
Keene Destiny
Looked to have some
potential when she began her career earlier this year, but has tailed off a
bit in her most recent starts. Q’fer
was OK, I’ll watch her take a start over the track first.
9
Sadies Scooter
Didn’t have much success in
her most recent starts in Ohio or Indiana, but shows a
nice win over a fair track off the nearly 6 week layoff last time. Possibly rounding into form a bit? I’ll toss her on the ticket.
Race 3 Selections 2-4-6-3
1
Cashmere Mist
Had a perfect trip on
opening night, and could only muster a very distant 3rd place
finish. Should continue to improve
with each start, but going to need a lot more to stay close here.
2
Duolotta cheatin
Added hobbles last time at
Big M, and has been in against one of the best 2yo’s in the country in both
of her LT starts. This is a much
easier crew, and she should enjoy the class relief for her KYSS prep.
3
Mergatroid
Shows a couple of nice AM
efforts in Jersey, and now ships in for a
start over the track before her stakes coming up next week. Should be sitting close to the lead in her
1st start under the lights.
4
Don’tcheat onafilly
Another well bred filly from
the first crop of Dewey. She was very
good in her local Q’fer, and appeared to have plenty more left in the
tank. Another that should continue to
improve.
5
Caribbean Dream
Tired badly late in the KY
Fair Final, and doesn’t appear to be ready to go with these just yet. Pass.
6
Doc’s Crystal
Filly was great on the KY
Fair circuit all season long, and we have yet to be able to gage her since
she has arrived in Lex. Got pinned in
2 starts back to finish 3rd, and made a break last time. Still think there is some talent here. Take a long look. Maybe.
7
Delmot
Hasn’t shown enough speed in
the AM to hang with the top ones in here, I’ll wait until we see more.
8
Reve Encore Dream
Continues to improve with
each LT start, and any further improvement should put her right in the mix
against this bunch. Your call.
9
Follow My Dreams
Finished behind #1 on
opening night, and now gets slammed with post 9 in a big field. I’ll wait for a better spot.
10
Peaceful Spirit
Hard to gage this filly from
the fair starts in Ohio,
but she has her work cut out from way out here. Pass.
Race 4 Selections 8-1-7-3
1
Sharpshot Hall
Raced good in his 1st
career try, but he was outfought down the lane by #10. Should continue to improve here in his 2nd
career start though.
2
Voodoo Victor
Far behind his rivals in his
debut and would need a LOT more here. Pass.
3
Blueridge Adiram
Dominated in the $10k KY
Fair Final on opening night, and really made quick work of his rivals at the
fairs in his last several starts. No
question a tougher group here, but he hasn’t done anything wrong.
4
Golden Prayer
No match for #3 in the KY
Fair Final, and hooks a tough group tonight.
Not for me.
5
Deweytrot and howe
Finished the last half of
the mile with a flat tire last time, and still finished up a solid 2nd
behind #3. Appears to have gotten over
his breaking problems since arriving locally.
Heading in the right direction.
6
Golden Stroke
Barn was on fire with 2 wins
Thursday night, but this guy appears to be in a bit over his head at this
point.
7
Dewey Luvs Britt
Continues to show
improvement with each AM work, and any further improvement should put him
right in the mix. Barn has been
rolling on the east coast.
8
Howdy Dewey
Didn’t find clearance until
VERY late last time, and threaded horses in time to get up for a neck victory. I was very impressed by that effort, and is
another that should continue to improve.
9
Alfredo Dream
Was absolutely FLYING on the
end of it last time to finish up a close 3rd behind #’s 1 &
10, and this guy continues to get better and better. Has his work cut out from way out here, but
should be rolling late again.
10
Alejandro Hall
Parlayed a perfect trip on
opening night to get up in the final stride to nail #1. Not quite sure things are going to work out
as well from post 10, but he should be leaving for early position. Must respect.
Race 5 Selections 6-1-7-2
1
Derby Dylan
Made a bold move from way
back into the fav on opening night, and expectedly tired a bit late to finish
4th. Was a very nice effort
for his first career try. Lands on the
pole, should sit close.
2
Argon Fire
An even 4th place
effort in the $9k KY Fair Final, and lands in what should be an easier spot
here. Still going to need his very
best to hang with the top ones.
3
Veloce
Has had some major stamina
issues thus far in his brief career, and would really have to pick it up to
be close with these. I’ll pass.
4
Fox Valley Vega
Hasn’t been within shouting
distance in his first few LT starts, and things aren’t going to get any
easier here. Would take a complete
turnaround.
5
Papasgothe bestgo
Held his own on the Ky Fair
circuit this year, but really never contended for top honors. Should find this spot to be a bit easier,
but still going to need a lot more speed.
6
Phenomenon
PA invader has improved in
each career start, and appears to have landed in a comfortable spot for his
local debut. This will be a prep for
the KYSS that begin next week. Certainly
the one to beat.
7
Storm Hawk
Another that has contended
for the minor awards in the Ky Fairs, and actually ended up hitting the board
in 7 of 8 thus far. Should be able to
go with these with his best effort.
8
Tundra
Only shows one Q’fer, but
would need a LOT more speed.
Pass.
Race 6 Selections 9-6-7-10 Start of $5,000 Guaranteed
Pick 4 See Ticket at the end
1
Victoria Valley
Trotted evenly in her first
couple of local starts, but lands in another tough spot. Needs more.
Loney opted off for #10 instead.
2
Klassic Kanidate
Faded badly to finish 3rd
behind the other two rivals in $7.5k Ky Fair Final, and is another that
appears to be in a bit over his head.
Not a Kanidate for the major awards tonight.
3
Diamond Deo
Added hobbles in the AM and
appeared to put in a much better effort.
Trainer jumps in the bike tonight, and I’ll watch him go around the
track once before hopping on board.
4
Vesper As
Closed ground in her first
two local starts to finish behind a filly we saw race earlier on tonight’s
card. Any similar effort should put
her back in the mix against these.
5
Maxaman
Actually put in a solid
effort in the Q’fer to finish right on the line with #3. That was a major improvement, but he is
still going to have to prove he can do it under the lights.
6
Blue Valley
Wow! A big first over effort to track down an
undefeated filly in the $10k Ky Fair Final.
I was very impressed by that effort, and she has won nearly every
start she hasn’t broke. Must use.
7
Marisela
Made her first start off a
long layoff on opening night and nearly went down the road to pull off a 32-1
upset, coming up only a length short to be 2nd. Should improve in 2nd start back
even more. Your call.
8
Cloverdale
0 for 23 LT for the win, but
does have some on the board finishes to show for his latest OH efforts. Still needs to find more speed to hang with
the top ones in here.
9
Glad Glidings
Absolutely loved this filly
on opening night and she made a break in stride going up the backside. Draws back into a fairly comfortable crew,
and should be the one to beat with her best effort.
10
Peaks and Valleys
Minded his manners and
trotted home evenly in the local Q’fer, but actually finished far behind #9
in that work. Slammed with post 10,
and will need his very best in only his 2nd LT try. Loney opted here over #1.
Race 7 Selections 7-6-4-3
1
Gettem Gator
Didn’t have a lot of punch
last week, and ended up finishing last against similar company. Only 1 for 41 LT, and would need a lot more
speed to hang with the top ones.
2
Lucky Deuce
Raced evenly to finish only
a deuce back in 4th last week, but lands in what appears to be
potentially a bit tougher group tonight.
Will have to pick it up even more.
3
Become Legendary
Back to back wins on the IL
fair circuit, and this guy actually shows some decent efforts back at Bluegrass
Downs. Should improve with the move to
the big track. Your call.
4
Lady Cambest
Making her first start off a
7 month break tonight, but the local Q’fer was superb. If she continues to improve off that
performance, she could be a tough customer off the extended break. T Smith opted to #6 instead.
5
Looksgood Onu
Lone 2yo in the field didn’t
have a lot of pop in her 1st career try, and I’m not sure she is
seasoned enough to go with these just yet.
Pass.
6
Julie Lou
3yo Ponder filly drops back
into the conditioned claiming company after a couple of fair efforts in Columbus. Barn typically has them ready to roll,
needs her very best here. T Smith
opted here over #4.
7
Country Strong
Came up with a stunning
performance last time to win for the first time in his career, and pull off
the upset of the meet to this point at 32-1!
I hate to miss the party, and potentially show up for the funeral, but
anything close to that last effort should be plenty enough to handle
these.
8
Real Impressive
Put in an average morning
effort, but will need to pick it up to make any noise in here. I’ll wait until we see some
improvement.
9
Lightning Reno
Tired late to finish 5th
in his first local try, and things aren’t going to get any easier from way
out here tonight. Not sure things set
up well in this spot. Pass.
10
Her Misconduct
Took a shot on her last
time, and she raced fairly well to end up finishing 3rd. Ends up in what appears to be a tougher
crew here, and gets slammed with post 10 on top of it. Has her work cut out for her.
Race 8 Selections 10-2-1-4
1
Kentucky Freeze
Filly continues to improve
with each start, and ended up trotting evenly last time to finish 4th. Lands in a fairly comfortable spot and
starts from the pole. Should be right
in the mix.
2
Quel Bourbon
Was solid in his first 2
starts back on the season, and has the luxury of drawing in a suspect crew
for his local debut this year. Has
missed 3 weeks now, but anything close to his best puts him very close.
3
NiceN Easy
Made an early break last
time, and doesn’t appear to pack the speed just yet. I’ll pass for now.
4
Moma Jeans Crn.
You can toss out that last
start, as this filly was far off the gate at the start in the Ky Fair
Final. Prior efforts would make her
competitive with these. Maybe.
5
Kacy’s Photo
Has had some stamina issues
in her first couple of starts back.
Should continue to improve, but still appears to be a bit tough for
her at this point. Not tonight.
6
Credit Memory
Hasn’t had any success
against similar company at Scioto, and would
need to find a lot more in the tank to hang with the top ones in here. Can’t give her much credit in this
spot.
7
Fort Riley
Yet to take off a win in 27
LT starts and only one 2nd place finish. Longshot status remains. Pass.
8
Blueridge Elisa
Yet to hit the board in 5
starts this season, and things aren’t going to get any easier in full field
from post 8 here. I’ll wait until we
see some improvement.
9
Coyotes Drmqueen
Was gapped off the gate in
KY Fair Final as well, and never made up any ground in the effort. Lands back in post 9, and appears to be
overmatched as well.
10
Richesse Oblige
Lone 2yo in the field was in
against a top flight filly in her lone start at the Big M, and lands in what
should be a much easier group although facing older. No question she will have to move forward
off the gate.
Race 9 Selections 10-9-3-11
1
Do Ya Wanna Rumba
Made her first start off an
almost 90 day break at OH fair last time, and ended up tiring badly
late. Lands on the pole in huge field,
but will need more to ‘rumba’ with these.
2
RainyDayQ
Raced evenly in first local
start, but is going to have to find a lot more in the tank to go with the top
ones.
3
Georgian Jiffyjane
Came first over on Thursday
and raced decently to finish up an even 3rd behind #10. Should be tightened up and ready to go
after that, but will need her very best punch to try and reverse the tables.
4
Yank My Rope
Perfect drive resulted in an
even 4th place finish last time, but it would take a lot more to
make any major noise against these.
Maybe underneath only.
5
Frontier Belle
Has been soundly defeated by
her stablemate, #9, in their last several starts. Hard for me to see her making any type of
major impact in this crew.
6
Pocket Belle
13yo mare definitely put in
an even better effort on Thursday night, and it looked for a moment like she
might go wire to wire as a big longshot.
Should be sitting on or close to the lead once again. Must find more stamina.
7
West Coast Arturo
Wasn’t overly impressed with
the last try, and is another that would really have to pick it up to stay
close with these. I’ll pass for now. Stiltner opted off for #6 instead.
8
Mattie Maras
Q’fed evenly after several
weeks off, but lands in against a couple of solid rivals in big field. I’ll watch the first one off the
layoff.
9
Willing Heart
Absolutely dominated at this
level at Bluegrass Downs, before being claimed 2 starts back and heading to
the IL fair circuit. Shows a big 56.2
win from earlier this year at Thunder Ridge.
Really like her to hit the board at a square number tonight. Reunites with Loney.
10
My Surfer Girl
Crushed a similar crew
including many of these same rivals on Thursday night under absolutely no
encouragement whatsoever from her pilot.
Unfortunately gets stuck on the outside in FULL field, but if she is
anywhere near as good it won’t matter.
11
Jo Jo’s Circus
Things really set up well
for her last time, but she didn’t have her usual late punch on the end of
it. Drops back in for a tag here, and
should find this to be more to her liking.
Must respect.
Race 10 Selections 7-1-9-5
1
Out of my Hands
Blowout win in local Q’fer,
and I would expect Kravchak to be on the gas early from the pole. Anything close to that effort should put
him right in the mix.
2
Springhouse Rebel
Shows competing against Open
company in Paducah,
and he made a break and eliminated himself early in his only local try. No question there is some talent here, but
I’ll wait until we see signs of improvement.
3
Realiscape
10yo hasn’t had much success
facing similar rivals at Scioto in his first 3 starts back on the season, and
will need to pick it up to be close against these. Can’t endorse him just yet. T Smith opted off for #7 instead.
4
Sometimes Eternal
Returned to the races last
week after a 14 month break, and had to settle for a distant 5th
place finish. I like the Northfield lines, but
not sure he is ready after being off for such a long time. I’ll watch one first.
5
Sweetlittle heart
There are bad trips and
there are BAD trips. This filly got
hopelessly shuffled back behind a staller last time, and finally shook loose
late to finish a close 2nd.
All that said, she takes a bit of a jump up tonight and she appears to
have hooked a far tougher group. Needs
her very best.
6
Electrician
Taken out of it with an
early break on Thursday, but doesn’t appear to pack the speed necessary to
hang with these just yet. Pass.
7
Money on Tap
Was way up the track in his
last effort, but lands in a far easier spot on the class drop in his first
local try. No question he fits with
these, and could provide some value here.
I’m on board. TS opted here
over #’s 3 & 9.
8
Rocknroll Herman
Herman completely faded last
time, and it would take a complete turnaround to be anywhere close
tonight. I’ll pass.
9
Yndra Hanover
Had an impossible trip from
post 9 on opening night getting parked every single step of the mile, and
expectedly tired late against a solid field.
She certainly belongs with these, but keep in mind she has been beaten
at short odds here several times in the past.
Worth the risk as the favorite?
T Smith opted off for #7, I’ll do the same.
Race 11 Selections 7-5-2-8
1
Fox Valley Blitzen
Blitzen has had some success
here in the past, but has really ran into some stamina issues in his last
several on the IL fair circuit. I’ll
have to watch him go around the big track before hopping on board.
2
Trishie Mae
Lone mare in the group is
yet to hit the board in 9 tries on the season, but she is facing a far easier
crew than she has hooked up with all year.
Wakeup call coming? Maybe.
3
Fortune Road
Hasn’t been finishing off
his miles recently, and lands in another competitive crew. Would have to find a lot more and
quickly. Not tonight.
4
Fox Valley Pablo
Didn’t have much luck
against similar in Paducah,
and things aren’t going to get any easier in this crew. Not for me.
5
Tricky Grin
Columbus invader finished a decent 4th last time,
and should improve stretching out to the big track tonight. The horse that was 3rd in his
last effort came back to win easily here on Thursday. Plenty of options from post 5.
6
Charmed Beauty
Showed some problems in each
of his 3 seasonal starts to this point, but I will say stretching out to the
big track for the first time helps many horses. I’m still going to have to see some signs
of life first.
7
Blue Punch
Followed the eventual winner
last time and ended up finishing right behind him to be 2nd. That was a big improvement from his prior
efforts, and anything similar puts him right back in the mix tonight.
8
Sailors Sky
A decent try on Thursday,
and lands in against similar company here in the Sunday night finale. Not sure he is ready to knock off the top
ones, but fits with these.
9
Under Act
Actually cleared past the
favorite here on Thursday after a brief first over journey, but ended up
tiring very badly late. Gets slammed
with post 9 now, and has his work cut out for him. Not for me.
10
Days Go By
Hasn’t had a lot to offer
against overnight company in Columbus
in his first two back on the year, and drops into our bottom condition for
his first local start. I’ll watch one
from post 10.
