Red Mile Race Reviews

Saturday, September 28th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                3-6-7

1

A Plus Hanover

($60k HB yearling) Not sure what caused the break last time in PASS at Philly, but still appears to be a notch or two below top level stakes company at this point even when he minds his manners.  Tetrick opted to #3 instead.

2

Doo Wop Hanover

Ended up with an eventful trip to say the least last time out at Tioga, and is another that may still be a notch or two below the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Campbell opted to #4 instead.

3

Some Major Beach

More than likely the 2nd best son out of ‘Wheres The Beach,’ who of course is the dam of Somebeachsomewhere.  Still winless, but has been knocking on the door against top level company.  Tetrick opted here over #’s 1 & 5.

4

On Golden Ponder

I knew he was good when he was here racing in the KYSS, but I didn’t know he was World Record on a half type good.  Wow!  What an amazing mile.  Is he ready to take the next step forward here?

5

Somewhere Fancy

($40k Lex yearling) Has flashed some ability up in Canada, and will need his absolute very best shot to contend for any of the major awards against this crew.  Your call.  Tetrick opted to #3 instead.

6

Western Vintage

($7k Lex yearling) Where was I at when this guy went through the sales ring for 7k?  I’d like to have another shot.  Has proven he can go with the best of the best.  Held safely for a game 2nd in the $648k Metro.

7

That’s My Opinion

($350k HB yearling – highest SBSW sold at auction in ’12) Appears to have found his best stride recently in Canada, and will get his first big stakes test tonight.  I think he go with these.

Race 2                     Selections                                3-2-6

1

Rockstar Stride

Couldn’t quite hold on as the fav last time in overnight company at Yonkers, and would likely need to pick things up even more to contend for any of the major awards tonight.  I could only consider underneath.

2

Frankand Joanne

Very nice career debut in stakes company at Freehold, finishing up a close 2nd.  Should continue to improve here in his 2nd LT try, I will toss him on the ticket.  Pierce opted here over #5.

3

JK Endof anera

HUGE mile here in his career debut, nearly digging in for the victory late after being used very hard.  Was beaten by a nice filly in there, so we won’t hold that against him.  Anything similar makes him the one to beat.  Tetrick opted here over #’s 1 & 8.

4

Classics Greatwish

($185k HB yearling) Made breaks in both career tries to this point, not ready to hop on board just yet.

5

Ha Ha

Not sure OH invader will get the last laugh against this crew, has been given a tough assignment in his local debut.  Not tonight.  Pierce opted to #2 instead.

6

Twice as Hard

I just keep trying him, and he has disappointed me a bit recently.  However, I DO think there is some talent here.  Picks up Lachance, will likely be picking up the pieces late.  Maybe a shot at the minor awards.

7

Ace of Sharks

($18k Lex yearling) Would be asking a lot for the first time starter to hang with this crew at first asking, I’ll watch him go around once first.

8

Perspective

($140k Lex yearling – highest AO sold at auction in ’12) Absolutely crushed a lesser crew of overnight company locally, and any further improvement puts him squarely in the mix.  Must respect.  Tetrick opted to #3.

Race 3                     Selections                                5-7-2

1

Emeritus Maximus

Has held his own against top level stakes company thus far this season, but he is part of a race for place in this spot.  Certainly a notch below his stablemate, #5.  Tetrick opted to #5.

2

Apprentice Hanover

Yet another with a shot at the minor awards in here behind the Captain, I would expect this guy to try and save ground and look to shake loose late.  Your call.

3

Artist Night

Crushed overnight rivals at Pocono last time in only his 2nd start back of the season, but he is going from mens league softball to stepping into the batter’s box against 100 mph fastballs.  Not ready for these yet.  YG chose #7.

4

Beach Memories

Ended up with a very unfortunate Jug experience, being DQ’d for interference after finishing 2nd in his Elim.  Has held his own against top level company all season, one of many with a shot behind the fav.

5

Captain Treacherous

What could you possibly say that hasn’t already been said?  Alagna has a stable full of stars, but this is THE star.  The Captain had plenty of success here last year, but where hasn’t he had success?  Put a circle around him.

6

Sir Richard Z Tam

Sir Richard lands in deep water here for his local debut, can’t endorse him against this crew.  Pass.

7

Sunfire Blue Chip

Not convinced he was on top of his game in the Jug, and the connections obviously thought the same after scratching him out of the final.  His most impressive score was $450k Adios.  I’ll try him behind the fav.

Race 4                     Selections                                3-7-1-6                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

So Surreal

($125k HB yearling) Never worse than 2nd against mid-level stakes company to begin his career, but takes a step up tonight to take on some top level colts.  Any further improvement should put him in the mix.

2

Limelight Beach

($25k HB yearling) Could only manage an even 4th with the perfect trip behind #3 in the $260k PASS Final.  Needs his absolute best shot to contend for the major awards against these.

3

Let’s Drink on It

($12k Lex yearling) The train has gone off the tracks in the last couple, but he’s been used hard in each of those big money events.  Has proven he can go with the best of the best prior.  I think he rights the ship here.

4

Sir Sam’s Z Tam

($25k HB yearling) Picked up some solid checks on the NYSS circuit this season, but would have to pick things up even more to go with the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

5

Somestar Somewhere

($110k HB yearling) Dominated overnight rivals in PA in the last couple, but facing a FAR tougher group here.  I’ll pass for now.

6

Ari Allstar

($45k HB yearling) Canadian invader has hooked up with some solid rivals north of the border, but hasn’t had much luck when trying out stakes company in the last couple.  Needs more.

7

Fort Knox

($110k Lex yearling) Has proven to have a wicked late kick thus far in his brief career, and we will see if Scott Z elects to race him off the pace again here.  If he is anywhere close turning for home, look out!

8

Beat the Drum

Has raced evenly against the top level this season, but faces a tough assignment from way out here.  Will need his absolute very best.  Not sure if I like how things will set up for him.

Race 5                     Selections                                3-5-7-6                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

He’s Got It

Tired badly on Jug Day at Delaware after blazing through some wicked fractions, and it appears he may be a notch or two below the top colts in here still.  I’ll pass for now.

2

Rocknroll Reality

Has held his own against stakes company on the east coast, but likely lands in what is an even tougher group tonight.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

3

Smack Talk

($22k HB yearling) Canadian invader has proven he packs a big late punch, but might be forced into a first over move tonight after landing in post 3.  Needs his very best, but I’ll take a flier.

4

Stevensville

Has been ‘ok’ against mid-level stakes company recently, and will likely be firing out early to ensure a nice up close trip.  Your call.

5

Sometimes Said

Has only missed the board one time all season against some top level company on the PASS circuit.  Plenty of options tonight after landing in a perfect mid-pack post.  Must respect.

6

Gold Rocks

Got caught in an impossible spot last time in $42k stake at Freehold, but had been very sharp prior for Team Alagna.  Fairly wide open crew here, but will need his very best.

7

Somesize somestyle

($50k HB yearling) Appears to have rounded the corner a bit over the last several starts, and lands in what is likely the softer of 4 divs here.  Certainly fits with these.  Maybe.  YG opted here over #8.

8

Wicked Business

($15k Lex yearling) Another that has raced evenly against top level company this season, and is another with a shot in what appears to be a fairly wide open div.  YG opted to #7 instead.

Race 6                     Selections                                3-9-6                       $15,000 Guaranteed Pick 4 Pool           See Ticket at the end

1

Lord of Misrule

($23k Lex yearling) Looks like a tough spot to try and keep his undefeated streak going with #3 in here, but also looks to be absolutely WIDE open behind the fav.  Any further improvement gives him a shot.  SZ opted to #8.

2

Some Playa

($37k HB yearling) Has been ‘ok’ against mid-level stakes company in PA, and is another of many with a shot at the minor awards in here behind the fav.  Your call.  Tetrick opted to #6 instead.

3

Jet Airway

($36k HB yearling – highest JJ sold at auction in ’12) Ultra consistent against top level stakes company in Canada, and now takes a huge plunge in class here in LC action.  Should win by as many as he wants to.

4

Blooming Genious

($16k Lex yearling – highest QPM sold at auction in ’12) Hasn’t done anything wrong to this point in his career, but would still need to prove he has enough speed to contend for the major awards here.  TT opted to #6.

5

Sports Sinner

($31k Lex yearling) Has had some stamina issues over the last couple at Hoosier, would take a complete turnaround here.  Pass.  D. Miller opted to #9 instead.

6

Status Quo

($80k HB yearling) Put together a solid campaign in PA, and is another of several with a shot in here behind the fav.  Needs his very best.  Tetrick opted here over #’s 2 & 4.

7

Feel the Heat

($13.5k BHS) OH bred would have to pick things up quite a bit to go with the top ones in this crew.  Not tonight.

8

Maxi Bon

($125k Lex yearling) Arrives into tonight with over 50 days on the shelf, but tightened back up with a decent local Q’fer.  Not sure he will offer much value in here, so I’ll look elsewhere behind the fav.  SZ chose over #1.

9

Sweet Talkin Clyde

($325k HB yearling) Really liked his first couple of tries at Pocono, and I still think there might be some talent here.  Should be a square price as well, I’ll give him a try behind the fav.  D. Miller opted here over #’s 5 & 7.

Race 7                     Selections                                6-8-1-4                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Somewhere in LA

Barn typically has them firing on all cylinders here in GC action, and this guy lands in against an unproven crew tonight as well.  Should sit close after landing on the pole.  Big shot.

2

Ideal Fashion

($115k HB yearling – highest AI sold at auction in ’12) Couldn’t overcome tough trip last time in NYSS at Yonkers, and was likely a notch below the top colts in NY this year.  Lands in a fairly wide open crew here.

3

Odds on Rhodonite

Not really sure what to expect here, Chi-town invader has done pretty much everything asked of him to this point.  Would still need to pick things up quite a bit though to hang with the top ones in here though.

4

Ideal Magic

($52k Lex yearling) No shot after getting caught wide at the back of the pack in the $648k Metro last time, and looked to be back on track here in the AM effort.  I could make a case here.

5

Pierce

($80k HB yearling) Yet to hit the board in 6 starts this season, and I don’t see anything getting any easier here.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

6

Carracci Hanover

($140k HB yearling) Note the barn change tonight, as this colt moves into the care of the nation’s leading trainer, Ron Burke.  Anything similar to his recent efforts in Canada put him in the mix.

7

Caviart Luca

Hasn’t proven he packs enough speed to go with the top ones in here just yet, I’ll wait for a better spot.

8

Journeyman

Yet another talented youngster for Team Alagna, and it seems as if this guy is just waiting to break out with a big mile soon.  Appears to be well spotted here.

Race 8                     Selections                                7-5-1-3                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Odds on Equuleus

I have been a big fan of this guy since early last year, and I think his Jug Elim was even better than it looks on paper after he got caught behind a staller and was forced wide.  Should sit close from the pole.

2

Resistance Futile

I don’t know about you, but he shocked me in that first Jug heat after pulling off the first over 24-1 dominant win.  Ended up making a break in the 2nd heat, but he has proven he belongs on the top level.

3

Wake Up Peter

Typically pops up with a large effort right when you least expect it.  Remains winless on the season, but has banked over $264k thus far.  His best effort puts him in the mix.  Pierce chose over #5.

4

Twilight Bonfire

Never fired after a perfect 2nd over trip following #2 in the first Jug heat last time, and I’m just not convinced he is heading in the right direction right now.  Lands in a deep and talented field here.  Needs a big rebound.  Campbell opted off to drive #7 instead.

5

Urbanite Hanover

Alright, I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t like him in either heat of the Jug, and he ended up 2nd in both at Boxcar prices.  No question he is peaking right now, will he be able to carry it over to the mile oval?  Pierce opted to #3.

6

Normandy Invasion

Couldn’t get the job done in Delaware as a heavy fav, and appears to be a notch or two below the top colts in here.  Pass.  D. Miller opted to #4 instead.

7

Sunshine Beach

Could probably be considered the fresh threat here after skipping the Jug, and he holds the distinction of being the only horse this year to beat Captain T back on 8-17 at Pocono.  Major player.  Campbell chose over #4.

8

Dedi’s Dragon

Nothing wrong with his 3yo campaign, but faces a tough assignment tonight landing in an ultra talented crew and beginning his journey from post 8.  I’ll pass for now.

Race 9                     Selections                                7-4-2-1                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Ms Caila J Fra

Not sure what caused the break last time as the heavy fav in overnight company at Philly, but she has been sharp all season long on the east coast.  Should be sitting very close after landing on the pole.  Your call.

2

Aunt Caroline

Might want to take a long look before you completely dismiss her in here, as she shows close 2nd place finishes recently behind I Luv The Nitelife & Somewherovrarainbow.  Should be in line for a nice trip from post 2.

3

Ideal Ginny

I can remember her from early on this season racing at The Big M, and its likely asking a bit much for her to hang with the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

4

Authorize

Seems rather strange that she wouldn’t have even more in the bank this season than she does, as she has held her own with some of the top fillies in the country.  Couldn’t have possibly looked better here last week.

5

Mistressto thestars

Has been knocking on the door recently against mid-level company in PA, but she would really have to pick things up still to contend for the major awards in here.

6

Think Pink

Not sure she is ready for this group just yet.  Pass.  Zeron opted to #2 instead.

7

Shebestingin

Ultra consistent filly decided to skip Jugette, and appears to be on a different level than many of her main rivals in here.  I’m on board.

8

Power Pack Hanover

Adds lasix tonight, but would take a LOT of improvement still to contend for the major awards in here.  I’ll watch for any further improvement.  Tetrick opted to #9 instead.

9

Parlee Beach

A couple of even efforts in the Jugette, and she appears to have landed in another tough spot here in big bulky field.  Won’t be easy.  Tetrick chose her over #8.

10

Belle Boyd

I actually gave her a shot in the Jugette, and I’m not really sure what happened.  She was not herself and packed it in very early.  Needs a big rebound, likely going to have to do it from last.  Tough spot.  Pierce opted to #4.

11

Ohmybelle

Made the biggest majority of her $210k bankroll right here over the red clay, but likely asking a bit much against this crew.

Race 10                   Selections                                6-9-5-4-2                 10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Skyful of Lighters

($150k Lex yearling – highest BD sold at auction in ’12) Typically not thrilled to take first time starters here in these LC events, but I must say this guy has the pedigree and lands in a manageable spot.  Maybe.

2

That’s Some Plan

($130k Lex yearling) Very similar to #1, might need a start but wouldn’t have to improve all that much off the AM try to make some noise in here.  Your call.

3

Breakwater

($65k Lex yearling) Appears overmatched against these.  Pass.

4

Ari’s Turn

($85k HB yearling) I can excuse the effort last time after the tough trip at Philly, and prior to that had shown a little ability against mid-level stakes company.  Any further improvement puts him in the mix.  CC chose over #8

5

Bushwacker

Appeared to have a little pop on the end of it in his career debut at Tioga, making up a ton of ground to finish up 3rd.  Should continue to improve in only his 2nd LT try here.  I can make a case.  Tetrick opted here over #9.

6

Dancin Hill

Absolutely dominated in what was essentially his career debut last time at Mohawk, and lands in what appears to be a fairly soft spot here in the finale.  Any similar effort makes him the one to beat.

7

Sweet Beach

($100k Lex yearling) Ended up finishing well back in the AM, I’ll watch him go around once first.

8

Shark Leap Hanover

($10k HB yearling) Not sure what’s going on recently, but he had missed some time than came out and made a break here locally.  I’ll wait until we see some signs of improvement.  Callahan opted to #4 instead.

9

Parnu Hanover

($140k HB yearling) Has had some breaking issues of his own, but did put in a nice clean effort in the AM last time at Pocono.  Might be a live longshot in here if he happens to be back on top of his game.  TT opted to #5.
