Red Mile Race Reviews

Saturday, October 5th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                1-2-3

1

Sweet Talkin Clyde

($325k HB yearling) Monster effort here last week to finish up a close 2nd, and appears to have landed in an even softer div this afternoon.  Should blast out early, and take them all the way.  I’m on board.

2

Wicked Business

($15k Lex yearling) A nice even 4th place finish against stakes company here last week, and lands in what is a much more manageable spot here today.  Should end up with a perfect trip following #1.

3

Status Quo

($80k HB yearling) Rode the cones to an even 4th place finish behind #1 here last week, and any similar effort should put him in play for the minor awards once again.

4

Sports Sinner

($31k Lex yearling) No threat against #1 here last week, would take a complete turnaround to make any noise today.  Pass.

5

Bakersfield

($75k HB yearling) I would assume he will be happy to avoid He’s Watching for a change, but would still have to find a lot more stamina to hang with the top ones in here.

6

Blooming Genius

($16k Lex yearling – highest QPM sold at auction in ’12) Tired a bit down the lane here last week after an aggressive first over try against the eventual winner.  Would have to pick things up quite a bit still.

7

Gold Rocks

($15k Lex yearling) Blasted to the lead last week, leading the field through some hot early fractions.  Caught up with him late, as he expectedly tired down the lane.  Drops into LC action here.  Needs his very best.

Race 2                     Selections                                1-3-2

1

Sandestin Hanover

($70k HB yearling) Hard to knock a colt who has won 4 of 6 thus far in his brief career, and should sit close after landing on the pole.  Must respect.  Gingras opted here over #2.

2

Some Playa

($37k HB yearling) Raced evenly in a tough spot last week, and should find things a bit more to his liking this afternoon.  Any similar effort should put him in the mix here.  Gingras opted to #1 instead.

3

Lord of Misrule

($23k Lex yearling) Rode the cones to an even 3rd place finish behind a couple of tough rivals here last week, suffering the first defeat of his career.  Appears to have hooked an easier crew this afternoon.  Big shot.

4

Preparty

($42k Lex yearling) PA invader has held his own against solid foes thus far, but would likely still need to pick things up a bit to contend for the major awards today.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Pierce opted to #3 instead.

5

Maxi Bon

($125k Lex yearling) Has flashed some major league speed early on in his career, but we haven’t seen him in over 2 months prior to today.  Will we get his best shot?  Not sure.

6

Feel the Heat

($13.5k BHS yearling) Doesn’t appear to pack enough speed to hang with these just yet.  Pass.

7

Big Turn On

($15k Lex yearling) Chi-town invader hasn’t proven he can go with this kind yet.  Pass.

Race 3                     Selections                                3-8-1

1

Beat the Drum

($17k Lex yearling) A bit overmatched here last week, but lands in what is likely a softer crew this afternoon and lands on the pole as well.  Still needs his very best punch.

2

Idealbeach Hanover

($260k HB yearling) Solid earlier this season, but hasn’t had much stamina in the last couple of Canadian stakes tries.  I would assume connections think he is squared away if they brought him here though.  Your call.

3

Somestar somewhere

($110k HB yearling) I was very impressed with that first over try here last week, digging in down the lane to fend off his rivals for 3rd.  Any smoother journey makes him the one to beat in my opinion.

4

Somewhere Fancy

($40k Lex yearling) A nice even 4th place finish in his local debut, and lands in what is probably a tad softer crew this afternoon.  He fits with these.

5

Skyful of Lighters

($150k Lex yearling – highest BD sold at auction in ’12) Solid career debut here in LC last week, but likely asking a bit much for him to hang with the top ones in here in only his 2nd LT try.  Not yet.

6

Somewhere in L A

Couldn’t hang with the top colts in deep stretch here last time, would have to pick things up a bit to contend for the major awards still.  Appears to be a bit more manageable spot here though.

7

Journeyman

Unleashed a BIG rally here last week, coming up only a half length short of the win.  Any similar effort should put him very close once again.

Race 4                     Selections                                5-9-2-4                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Rockstar Stride

($300k Lex yearling) Had some road trouble down the lane here in his local debut, but takes a step up to the big leagues here to take on stakes colts this afternoon.  Not quite sure he is ready for these yet.

2

Ari Allstar

($45k HB yearling) Sprinted home evenly here last week after a perfect 2nd over trip to finish up a fairly close 4th.  Lands in what appears to be a bit softer group this afternoon.  Maybe.  Campbell opted to #9 instead.

3

Caviart Luca

Outpaced by his stakes rivals here last week, and would need to find a LOT more in the tank to hang with the top ones in here as well.  Pass.  Pierce opted to #4 instead.

4

Smack Talk

($22k HB yearling) Dug in deep down the lane to fight off his rivals en route to a nice maiden breaking stakes victory here last week.  Lands in a similar crew here, but likely a much shorter price this afternoon.

5

Ideal Magic

($52k Lex yearling) Swallowed up at the head of the lane here last week after blazing through some torrid fractions.  Hopefully Tetrick can ration out the speed a bit more today, not a lot of fast leavers in here.

6

Frankand Joanne

Briefly bothered on the backstretch last week after a horse made a break in front of him, but gathered himself back up to finish up a solid 2nd.  Takes a step up to stakes company here, would have to pick things up even more.  Pierce opted to #4 instead.

7

Parnu Hanover

($140k HB yearling) Got things back on track here last week, launching an aggressive first over attack around the far turn.  Steps up to take on stakes company here, will need even more.

8

Sir Sam’s Z Tam

($25k HB yearling) Has been knocking on the door against solid NYSS foes this season, but couldn’t hang with the top ones after a perfect trip here locally.  Won’t get any easier today from way out here.

9

On Golden Ponder

Picked up the pieces down the lane here last week en route to a 2nd place finish behind the fav.  Any similar effort should put him in play once again.  Campbell opted here over #2.

Race 5                     Selections                                6-1-3

1

Scandalous Hanover

Has really taken off here in her sophomore season, winning half of her starts, including 6 in a row into today.  RAZOR sharp right now.  Hasn’t lost since joining Coleman barn.  D. Miller opted to #6 instead.

2

Ms Caila J Fra

Not sure what has been bothering her recently, but she comes into today off back to back breaks.  No question she has the talent, but not willing to take the risk on her against these.

3

Mistressto thestars

Tired late last week after an ultra aggressive steer, and could be in play for the minor awards here with any smoother journey.  Lands in a competitive crew.

4

Authorize

Nailed #7 in the final stride for 3rd here last week, and I could only consider her for the minor awards once again.

5

Ohmybelle

Stepped up her game last week, just missed picking up the nickel against a tough crew.  Still not sure things are going to get any easier here after landing in an ultra tough div though.

6

Shebestingin

Never looked better in my opinion, than she did here last week after exploding past her rivals and opening up down the lane.  Hooks a tough foe in #1, but anything similar should be enough in my opinion.

7

Aunt Caroline

Got caught up in the wicked early tempo here last week, but still hung on fairly well down the lane to finish 4th.  Maybe a notch or 2 below the favs, but have to consider for the minor awards once again.

Race 6                     Selections                                5-1-7                       Start of the $15,000 Guaranteed Pick 4                See Ticket at the end

1

Vegas Vacation

Welcome to the Main Event of today’s card... Little Brown Jug Champ arrives locally to take a shot at The Captain with Sunshine Beach in as well.  Put your seatbelts on, get your popcorn ready!  Should be a good one.

2

Emeritus Maximus

Rode the cones to an even 3rd place finish behind #5 here last week, but lands in what appears to be an even tougher group this afternoon.  Pass.

3

Beach Memories

I must admit he raced much better than I anticipated here last week, and has certainly proven that he can hold his own against the best of the best.  All that said, it won’t be easy against this crew.

4

Urbanite Hanover

Runner up in the ’13 Little Brown Jug behind #1, and I wouldn’t be too hard on him for last week after getting caught in the back when they sprinted the back half in 53.2.  There should be plenty of pace to chase in here.

5

Captain Treacherous

The Captain is no doubt the one to beat, but he will have to be on his toes here against #’s 1 & 7.  Dazzled here last week in a career best performance.  I’m looking forward to this heavyweight bout!

6

Sir Richard Z Tam

Lands in an absolute shark tank here.  Can’t endorse him against these.

7

Sunshine Beach

The lone colt to beat #5 this year, he went right to the front and stole that last one.  It won’t be that easy here this afternoon.  First time he has faced The Captain since beating him on 8-17.  Must respect.

Race 7                     Selections                                3-4-2

1

That’s Some Plan

($130k Lex yearling) Might be asking a bit much for him to hang with this crew right now.  Pass.

2

Carracci Hanover

($140k HB yearling) A nice 3rd place finish in his debut for new barn here last week, skimming the cones late even after being used hard early.  Any similar effort should put him squarely in the mix here.

3

So Surreal

($125k HB yearling) Burned up through the windows last week, and ended up settling for 2nd as the 3-5 fav.  Lands in what appears to be an even softer spot here.  No question the one to beat.

4

He’s Got It

($35k Lex yearling) Absolutely blocked with no place to go for a majority of the stretch drive here last week, and I think we might be looking at a square price on him today.  I’ll try him in behind the fav.

5

Rocknroll Reality

($45k Lex yearling) Shuffled back to last at the top of the lane last time, but didn’t overly impress me when he finally shook loose late.  Would have to pick things up a bit still.  Callahan opted here over #6.

6

A Plus Hanover

($60k HB yearling) Outpaced by his rivals down the lane here last week, still maybe a notch or two below the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Callahan opted to #5 instead.

7

Fort Knox

($110k Lex yearling) Got caught in the back through some slow early fractions here last week, but I would anticipate that he will have more pace to chase in here.  Still needs his very best.

Race 8                     Selections                                2-6-3

1

Belle Boyd

Absolutely scorched here last week after trying to leave from post 10 in the big field.  Not really on her toes in the Jugette prior, not really sure what to expect here.  No doubt the price will be right though.

2

Carols Desire

Dominated a weaker crew last time in PA, and prior to that unleashed a huge late rally to be 2nd in the final heat of the Jugette.  I am convinced that she is rounding into form right now, I’m willing to take a flier.

3

Parlee Beach

Ended up finishing a distant 2nd here last week behind the fav after following her throughout, and does have the luxury of landing in the easiest of 2 divs here.  Still going to need her absolute very best.

4

Mattie Terror Girl

Not convinced she is ready to go with this level.  Pass.

5

Nikki Beach

Has flown a bit under the radar in her class this season, quietly banking over $213k.  Likely blasting out for early position, should be sitting very close.  Your call.

6

Jerseylicious

Put together a couple of solid efforts to finish in behind the BIG fav in Jugette, and lands in the weaker of 2 divs this afternoon.  Likely going to be a very short price though, I’ll look for more value elsewhere.

7

Think Pink

Picked up some of the pieces from far back here last week, but likely still asking a bit much for her to contend for the major awards against this crew.

Race 9                     Selections                                6-2-4-7                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Cantab Jones

Made quick work of overnight company here a couple of weeks back, but lands in what appears to be a much tougher spot this afternoon.  Would have to pick things up even more.

2

Third Pat

Held his own against some tough company this season, and lands in what appears to be a fairly wide open crew here in his local debut.  No question he fits with these.  I’ll take a shot.

3

Ergo Hanover

Romped here when we last saw him in the AM, but has had all sorts of problems so far this season.  I’ll watch for some improvement before hopping on board.

4

Andy Revrac

Trotted evenly against tough foes recently on the east coast, and appears to be the most talented of the 3 from Team Alagna here in Race 9.  Any smooth journey should put him in the mix.

5

Dreams of Thunder

A nice effort here in his local debut to finish in behind a heavy fav here last week.  I would expect another off the pace rally here.  Again, it appears to be fairly wide open.  Maybe.

6

Picture This

Already banked over $202k this season, and should have the class edge on his rivals here in this crew.  I am willing to hop on board once again.

7

Dewey Luvs Britt

No luck against stakes colts here last week, but takes a substantial plunge in class against LC company this afternoon.  Should wake him up a bit, he fits with these.

8

Legendary Kemp

Appears overmatched against these right now.  Pass.

Race 10                   Selections                                7-4-1

1

Fool Me Once

Absolutely obliterated his rivals in the $225k NYSS Final last week at Yonkers, and has proven that he can hold his own against the best of the best all season.  Lands in the softer of 2 divs here.  Must respect.

2

Twilight Bonfire

Got caught in a bad spot here last week, trying to close into a 53.2 back half.  However, I’m still not convinced that he is on top of his game right now.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.  D. Miller opted here over #3.

3

Normandy Invasion

Another that hasn’t been on top of his game recently, would take a complete turnaround here.  Not today.  D. Miller opted to #2 instead.

4

Sunfire Blue Chip

A nice even effort here last week against solid foes, and dodges the trio that beat him this afternoon.  I would expect him to blast out in this spot, should be sitting on or near the lead.  Maybe.  Gingras opted here over #6.

5

Wake Up Peter

Sprinted home to a nice 3rd place finish behind a couple of solid rivals here last week, and has been knocking on the door against the top level all season.  Lands in the easier of 2 divs here as well.

6

Dedi’s Dragon

Paced evenly into the wicked back half last week, but still maybe a notch or two below the favs in here at this point.  Needs his absolute very best.  Gingras opted to #4 instead.

7

Apprentice Hanover

Took a first over crack at The Captain here last week, and expectedly tired a bit late.  Should end up with a solid pace to chase in here, I’m willing to take a flier.

Race 11                   Selections                                6-5-2-1                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Ideal Fashion

($115k HB yearling – highest AI sold at auction in ’12) Took a first over shot here last week, and still hung in for a close 5th place finish late.  Should be in line for a nice journey after landing on the pole.  Maybe.

2

Stevensville

Blasted out early here last week, then moved again to launch a first over bid only to tire late.  Any smoother journey should put him in the mix.  Your call.  Tetrick opted to #6 instead.

3

Melmerby Beach

Great to see the connections of SBSW in town with one of his sons this afternoon.  What a mile he went here in 2008, establishing a World Record in 1:46.4.  Maybe a bit ambitious for this guy right now though.

4

Doo Wop Hanover

($52k HB yearling) Tired late last week after being used very hard early, and should be another looking to seek out a smoother journey this afternoon.  Still would need to pick things up a bit.

5

Limelight Beach

($25k HB yearling) Picture perfect journey last week, and took full advantage of it by sprinting by the fav up the inside late.  Not sure things will work out that perfectly here, but still a major player.  DM opted here over 1 & 9.

6

Some Major Beach

Ended up with a brutal trip here last week after #4 refused to turn him loose down the backstretch, but still showed a ton of ability digging in to hold 3rd off that journey.  I will jump on board once again.

7

Jet Airway

($36k HB yearling – highest JJ sold at auction in ’12) Wasn’t eligible to stakes action here last week, but got the job done against a tough foe in LC action.  Steps up to the big leagues here, needs his very best.

8

Somesize somestyle

($50k HB yearling) Tired late after being used hard early here last week, and lands in what has turned out to be a fairly tough crew here this afternoon.  Won’t be easy from out here.

9

Sweet Beach

($100k Lex yearling) Likely not seasoned enough to contend for the major awards in here just yet, and gets slammed with outside post to make matters worse.  I’ll watch this one.  D. Miller opted to #5 instead.

Race 12                   Selections                                4-2-10-7-5                               10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Dancin Hill

Decent effort here in his local debut last time, but lands in what appears to be an even tougher group this afternoon.  I could consider him for the minor awards only at this point.  Zeron opted to #10 instead.

2

JK Endofanera

A couple of sharp local efforts to begin his career, and I would expect him to continue to improve today in his 3rd LT try.  One of several with a shot in here behind the fav.  Tetrick opted here over #5.

3

Shark Leap Hanover

($10k HB yearling) Overmatched against similar company here last week, and I don’t see things getting any easier for him this afternoon.  The shark looks to have landed in deep water.  Lachance opted to #9 instead.

4

Odds on Rhodonite

Parlayed a perfect 2nd over trip into a stakes victory here last week against tough foes, and now lands in LC action after not being eligible for the ISS stake this week.  Any similar effort should be plenty.

5

Bushwacker

($135k Lex yearling) Sprinted home nicely here in only his 2nd LT start last week, and is another that should continue to improve each and every time.  Plenty of options from mid-pack post here.  TT opted to #2 instead.

6

Ha Ha

Appears overmatched against this crew right now.  Pass.

7

Ari’s Turn

($85k HB yearling) Picked up a nice victory here last week, but looks to have landed in against an even tougher group this afternoon.  Anything similar to that last effort should put him in play for the minor awards.

8

Perspective

($140k Lex yearling – highest AO sold at auction in ’12) No threat last week, and lands in what looks to be a tougher group here.  Not sure I can endorse him with that in mind.  Zeron opted to #10 instead.

9

Twice as Hard

($15k Lex yearling) Couldn’t fend off his rivals late last week, and things aren’t going to get any easier for him in here.  Might even be 3 times as hard as what he faced last time.  Lachance opted here over #3.

10

That’s My Opinion

($350k HB yearling – highest SBSW sold at auction in ’12) Never threatened after getting caught up in a big mile here last week, but lands back in a spot where he should have some success this afternoon.
