Red Mile Race Reviews
Saturday, August 18th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 1-4-3-5
1
Scootin Around
Northfield invader looks to have landed in a very comfortable
spot in the debut for our 2011 leading barn.
Not much on taking short priced favorites, but I can’t see any
scenario where this one gets beat.
2
Leadmeto thetruth
The truth is he only led for
less than half a mile after blasting out in his first local start, and tired
BADLY late. Would take a complete
turnaround here. Loney opted here over
#6.
3
KB’s Brock
A couple of even efforts to
kick off the meet, and now he lands in a smaller field and should be sitting
much closer to the pace. Stiltner
always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Maybe underneath.
4
Sempre Ribera
An even 4th place
finish against a solid crew last time, and is one of many in here with a shot
at the minor awards. Looks wide open
behind the fav.
5
Beach Bandit
Made a break before the
start last time and was never in it.
Has some early speed if Shehan elects to step on the gas early, could
be in line for a nice trip behind #1.
Your call.
6
Mor Than Enuff Russ
Takes a substantial drop
down to the $2.5k level after an even effort in for a $5k tag. Should enjoy the class relief, again it’s
wide open behind the fav. Loney opted
off in favor of #2.
Race 2 Selections 1-6-3-2
1
Dollys Joy
Got locked in a duel with #6
last time past the half and that took its toll as she tired late. Should be in line for a nice trip from the
pole tonight, and I think she could be ready for a big rebound. I’ll take a shot.
2
Yndra Hanover
Closed decently last time to
pick up a nice 3rd, and takes a big jump up into Open company
here. However, it hasn’t come up
overly tough for this class. Needs her
very best still.
3
Kilowatts Fantasy
Was no match for the winner
last week, but did rally by her other rivals late to finish in the runner up
spot. Any similar effort puts her
close once again, but I’ll try and beat her at what is likely to be a short
price.
4
Dutzs Charm
Much better effort on
Wednesday night at Indy, but still asking a lot for her to take on Open
company here.
5
Kay Low
Tired after being used hard
early in her last at Scioto, but she has
proven that she can hold her own against this type of company. I could make a case for nearly any of
these.
6
Premier Cami Cane
The cami cane fired straight
to the lead last time and got a bit stubborn when she faced an early
challenge from #1. Couldn’t hold off
the eventual winner late, but still not a bad try to be 5th. Fits with these.
Race 3 Selections 4-1-6-5
1
Swingin B
Just one win to show for 10
starts on the season, but this filly appears to have landed in a comfortable
spot for her local debut. Should sit
close and be able to hang around for a piece late.
2
Watcha talkinabout
Tough to gage the IL fair
starts, but this guy was beaten by a 2yo filly in his only try down at
Bluegrass Downs. Would need a lot more
to make any major noise against these.
3
Muncie
Not a bad try last time, but
keep in mind that was only a 4 horse field where he finished 4th. The track was WAY off for that race, and he
should continue to improve with each start.
4
Dancing in Terror
2yo makes his career debut
tonight, and looked fairly good in his local Q’fer. Not sure what the scratch was all about
last time, but this isn’t overly tough.
I’m on board.
5
Smoke Rings
Shows winning in 3 of 4
starts this year, with the only loss coming after he was impeded at the start
last time. Not sure how tough the
competition is at the fairs though.
Price should be right. Your
call.
6
Papasgothe bestgo
Not a bad effort to be 4th
behind a heavy fav last time, and this appears to be an even easier crew he
has hooked tonight. Will he have the
best go? Maybe.
7
It’s True
2yo filly hooked an
impossible spot last time for her first career start, and this should be much
more to her liking. Still going to
have to pick it up quite a bit though.
8
Veloce
Tried to go down the road
last time at huge odds only to tire late.
Lands back on the outside, and no reason to think he won’t be blasting
to the top once again. Catch him if
you can.
Race 4 Selections 8-9-3-2
1
Artmani
PA invader has had some
stamina issues recently, and would have to find more in the tank late to hang
with the top ones in here. Hooks a
pretty solid group tonight for this level.
Bolon opted to #9 instead.
2
Lion of Judah
Put in another solid effort
to finish up 3rd behind #’s 3 & 8 last time, and he has really
picked up his game since arriving locally.
Not sure he is ready to beat them just yet, but maybe underneath.
3
Sax Solo
Made an aggressive attempt
as the fav in his first local try, and ended up being overpowered by #8 in
deep stretch to settle for 2nd.
Draws inside of his main rivals tonight, and should be a major player
once again.
4
Annrenee
Another that is tough to
gage off her IL fair efforts, but she does show winning a race at Hoosier in
56.4 earlier this year. I’ll watch her
go around the big track once before endorsing.
5
Diannas May Day
She raced evenly against
many of these same rivals last time, but she ended up finishing last in the
small field. Things aren’t going to
get any easier here.
6
Awinkand.
Packs plenty of early speed,
but stamina has been the issue with him as of late as well. Needs more.
7
Kinda Flighty
Hasn’t had much to offer
against far tougher company lately in Indy, but she should like the class
relief in her local debut. Trainer
jumps in the bike here, your guess is as good as mine.
8
Deo Gloria
Very impressed by the effort
from this filly last time, as she made it 6 of 12 now for her career. That was her first start since arriving
from Canada,
and she will likely be better in her 2nd try tonight. BIG shot.
9
Lotto Ticket
Took all the worst of it in
his last start, yet still got the job done for at least his 5th in
a row. No question he is absolutely
blasting early from post 9. Barn been
on a roll. Can he take them all the
way?
Race 5 Selections 8-7-3-5
1
Say It’s True
He won that last race much
easier than it looks on paper under very little encouragement
whatsoever. That much I can say is
true. Has he cured his breaking
problems with the move to the big track?
Maybe true, maybe not.
2
Spitfire Rose
Shows an even effort against
overnight company last time at the Ocean, but is she really ready to step up
and take on open company? No.
3
Miss DW Chip
Had been in fine form down
in Paducah,
but got sizzled last time when trying to keep up with the favs early. Won’t be chasing that kind of early pace in
here, should be able to carry the early speed much further.
4
Long’s Sunshine
Didn’t have much luck
against NW last time, and things aren’t going to get any easier against Open
company tonight. I’ll wait for a
better spot.
5
Red Rocks
First local start for the
barn with this trotter, and he typically packs a pretty good late punch and
should be helped out with the stretch to the bigger oval. I’ll use him underneath.
6
Sister Gola
In over her head last time,
but this mare typically gets pretty good during our meet here every
year. Still may be a notch too high
against these. I’ll pass for now.
7
Farmer Jones
Classy veteran has over
$363k in the bank lifetime and has been on quite a roll recently with only a
DQ costing him a long win streak.
Always shows up with his best effort, is he good enough to beat the
fav though?
8
Blueridge Legacy
Picked up the pieces last
time in finishing a game runner up to a very nice trotter. Should be better with a local start under
his belt, and has drawn in a much softer spot tonight. All positive indicators. BIG shot.
Race 6 Selections 1-7-4-6 Start of the Pick 4 See ticket at the end
1
Billtown Road
Didn’t get the best of trips
in his first local try, and still rallied nicely to pick up 3rd in
his first start back in a year. Should
be tightened up and ready to rock. I’m
on board. Loney opted here over
#6.
2
Princess Warrior
Never finished 1-2 in 20
career tries, and she would need to find a lot more stamina to hang around
for anything against these. Not for
me.
3
B Good Lexi
Even effort at the fair last
time, but hasn’t had much success in her pari-mutuel conquests thus far. Would have to pick it up quite a bit. I’ll pass.
4
Looksgood onu
2yo filly faced far tougher
company last time and raced evenly.
Takes on another older group here, but should be a much better spot
for her than the last. Should continue
to improve in 3rd LT start.
KB opted to #7.
5
Electrician
Hasn’t had much to offer
recently, has to find a way to keep the lights on late.
6
Doc’s Coco
Got pinned in last time
behind a horse that went completely backwards. You can toss out that effort, and she had
been racing good prior. Any smoother
journey puts her right in the mix.
Loney opted to #1 instead.
7
Momspacific flight
Appeared to be home free
last time, but she really shortened up her strides and got collared
late. Should be blasting to the top
once again. Catch her if you can. Bolon opted here over #4.
8
Alluring Art
Followed the eventual winner
up last time, and could only muster an even 5th place finish. Not an overly tough group, but needs a
better late kick.
Race 7 Selections 3-2-5-4
1
Jena Mac Love
Scioto invader takes a slight drop in class tonight but
this may actually turn out to be a bit tougher group than she faced in her
last. Not in love with her here.
2
Springhouse Rebel
Big effort to finish up a
game 2nd last time, but couldn’t get by the pacesetter under heavy
encouragement down the lane. Any
similar effort puts him right in the mix.
3
Feys Blitzen Grey
Never in it in first local
start, but drops into a more comfortable spot for his 2nd start
over the track. 9yo has a LOT of big efforts over this surface in the past. I’m willing to take a flier on KY’s ‘grey
gladiator.’
4
Blue Punch
I know he was 2nd
in the last try, but I must admit that I was not overly impressed with that
effort. He passed a lot of tired
horses late and never threatened for the win.
Will need more of a punch against these.
5
Blueridge Straight
Was in an impossible spot
last time, and was just outsprinted by his rivals late. Should find the class relief to his
liking. No question he fits with
these.
6
O’Rourke Three
Classy veteran never fired
in his first start over the oval, and I’ll wait until we see some signs of
improvement before hopping on board.
7
McDance Desire
3yo filly has her work cut
out for her in against some older classy war horses in this spot. Had a big win over the track last year as a
2yo though. Your call.
8
Addison
Stuck on the outside of a
tough group for his local debut. Not
tonight. Stiltner opted to #4
instead.
Race 8 Selections 8-4-1-7
1
Hereiam Coolwater
Chi-town invader has been
holding her own against similar company at Balmoral, and has had some success
here in the past. Competitive group
here, but she should sit close.
2
Money on Tap
A decent effort in his first
spin around the track, and he should be poised and ready to roll here in his
2nd local try. Appears to
be a tougher group though. Would need
his very best.
3
MajorWorries
Should have some major
worries against these. Not
tonight.
4
Doc’s Zippy
Big effort at Hazel last
time, and shows a win in 55 out in California
earlier this year. Appears to be
heading in the right direction. Must
respect.
5
Crime Scene Cruzer
A sensational win in his
first start here, but was quite honestly a bit of a disappointment as the fav
in his last try. Probably the toughest
group he has faced yet tonight. I’ll
wait for a better spot.
6
Hillcrest Domingo
Turned things around with a
nice try last time, and was only beaten late by the pocket rocket. Looks to have landed back in a solid crew
tonight though. Would have to pick it
up even more.
7
I Ota Win
He put the pressure to the
fav last time, and battled him all the way to the finish to end up 2nd. Draws back into quite a tough crew, but
should be able to build on the last performance.
8
Jordan Jeffrey
Well, by now if you have
seen this barn race a few tonight already.
If they have been firing, than no reason not to think this guy won’t
as well. No question he is the one to
beat on paper.
Race 9 Selections 4-8-1-6
1
Radical Cam
Made his first start in over
2 years last time at OH fair, and it appears to be a solid effort on
paper. No question he has the talent
to go with these, will he be ready to fire in his 2nd start off
the shelf?
2
Sweetlittleheart
Outpaced last time, and not
sure she is ready to go with these just yet as well. Pass.
3
Mobil Big John
Big John packs plenty of
early speed, and I would suspect he will be headed to the front in this
spot. I think he is better than those
recent efforts indicate, but still asking a lot to go with this crew. Loney opted to #7.
4
Jate O’del
Changed barns prior to the
last start and didn’t appear to have a lot of pop before he made the break in
stride. Disappointed twice now as an
odds on fav. I’m willing to give him
one more shot before moving on.
5
Rocknroll Herman
Never threatened in his
last, and appears to be in tough here as well. Pass.
6
Dugan Run Dream
Saved all the ground last
time to finish up a solid 4th, and any similar effort puts him
right in the mix against these. Price
won’t be nearly as big this time though.
7
Unreal Appeal
Missed a couple of weeks now
after being sick, and it’s hard to find much appeal there. I’ll watch one first. Loney opted here over #3.
8
Ab’s Beach Boy
Was in the middle of what
appeared to be a big move last time, before hooking wheels with #4 when he
made a break. I saw enough in that one
to know you better take a long look at this guy tonight.
9
Artistic Dynasty
Couldn’t hang with similar
company earlier this summer at Scioto. Not tonight.
Race 10 Selections 5-8-1-2
1
Arringarosa
Didn’t particularly like
this guy coming off the scratched sick last time, but I must admit that he
raced fairly well. Should sit much
closer and be tightened up for this one.
Maybe.
2
Minks Request
Came first over against #5
last time, and tired late after dueling for a decent way. I can’t fault him for that effort, but
hooks every one that beat him again here.
3
Real Hanover
Got back on track with an
off the pace rally last time, but taking a BIG step up to take on Open
company here. Not sure I’m convinced
he is ready to go with these at this point.
4
Bar B’s Apache Cam
No match for this group last
week, and I don’t see anything changing here.
Pass.
5
Jagger Blue Chip
Huge effort off the layoff
last time, as he got stung early and still held on for a game 2nd
behind #8 late. Shouldn’t have to work
as hard for the lead from inside position this time. I’m on board.
6
Papaknowsbest
Tired late to finish 4th
against these last time, and he better be ready to go a big opening quarter
if he is going to try and outfoot #5 off the gate this week. Needs his very best to hit the ticket.
7
Topville Diamond
Was a $3k claimer back in
the middle of June, I think he may be a bit ambitiously spotted here.
8
Real or Magic
Things set up perfectly for
him last time, but I must say he won under absolutely no encouragement
whatsoever. Assigned the outside post
for this, and figures to be a short price.
Must respect.
Race 11 Selections 5-7-8-3
1
Skyway Scoot
Lone mare in the field raced
evenly at this level last time, and may have landed in an even tougher group
tonight. I’ll wait for a better
spot. Bolon opted to #8 instead.
2
SBD First Blood
MI invader has run into some
stamina issues of late and takes on a solid group of claimers for his local
debut. I’ll watch one first. Bolon opted to #8 instead.
3
Irish Big Guy
A couple of solid efforts
locally thus far, and now drops in for the $3.5k tag. This should be about where he belongs, but
this is not an easy group. Bolon opted
to #8 instead.
4
Sometimes Eternal
Never looked comfortable
during the mile last time, and couldn’t keep up with #5 late. Has been lightly raced the last couple of
years. Not sure I can endorse him
against these. Bolon opted to #8
instead.
5
Out of my Hands
Kravchak took no prisoners
last time cutting out some wicked fractions, but the gelding showed some
fight by fending off his rivals down the lane. Hard to fault him off that effort. Right down the road again here!
6
Paradise Ragtime
I must admit that I was all
over this guy last time, and he never fired off an absolutely perfect
trip. He IS better than that, but it
would take a complete turnaround to hang with the top ones in here.
7
Last Second Shot
Got pinned in for a bit last
time, and I’m not convinced that Stiltner ever really got him in his best
gear. Unfortunately he has drawn back
in a tough group, but I’ll toss him on underneath to provide some value.
8
Mainline Hall
Looked invincible with that
last win at Northfield,
but I’m not convinced that was an overly tough group he beat. Likely to be a very short price. I may take a shot against this one. Bolon opted here over #’s 1,2,3,4 &
9.
9
Father in Law
A small horse, but he obviously
has a big heart with over $142k in the bank LT. Drops down from the Open level, but is
likely to have to do it from last here. Not a good recipe for success. Bolon opted to #8 instead.
