Red Mile Race Reviews
Saturday, August 11th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 4-1-5
1
Sax Solo
Chi-town invader has been
facing some tough company recently as well, and no question he has landed in
a much more comfortable spot. Should be
close with his best effort.
2
Lion of Judah
Sprinted by the field on
opening night to pull off the 9-1 upset, but steps up to take on much tougher
company in small field here. Would
need a LOT more.
3
Diannas May Day
Mare shows a decent runner
up finish 3 starts back in Indy, but has really been having some stamina
issues in her last couple. Easier spot
tonight, but still going to have to find some late kick to get a piece.
4
Deo Gloria
Canadian invader has hit the
board in 8 of 11 on the year. Oddly
enough she Q’fed back in Canada
just one day after her last race, and it appears to be a decent work. Long ship back here, is she ready at first
asking?
5
Mrtnlufr Bluegrass
Raced evenly in KY Fair
Final as well, finishing up less than a couple of lengths behind #1. He is likely to be sitting last once again
in a small field, can he sprint by them late?
Your call.
Race 2 Selections 3-5-8-6
1
Mor Storms Coming
Debuted locally with an even
effort from post 9 on opening night, and moves to the pole tonight in what
appears to be an easier crew. Should
be sitting MUCH closer. WIDE open
field. Maybe.
2
Blazing Tower
Was rolling pretty good on
the end of it last time to finish up a nice 2nd. Certainly fits with these, and looks to be
one of many with a big shot. Demand
value with whomever you choose. Bolon
opted here over #4.
3
Our Little Pilgrim
11yo campaigner has had
plenty of success here in the past, and drops in for just a $2.5k tag after
racing his last few in a bit tougher at Scioto. Ready for the drop and pop tonight? I think so.
4
Jaxx
Wasn’t a big fan of his the
other night, but I will have to say that he raced fairly decent after sitting
close in a very quick opening half.
Still needs to find some stamina late.
Bolon opted off to drive #2 instead.
5
Paul T
Shows beating some decent
claimers down in Paducah,
and makes his local debut for team Anthrop.
Don’t overlook him in here with the ‘slower’ race miles. Should be a nice price, and has a BIG shot.
6
Fox Valley Michael
I was all over him on
opening night, and quite honestly he raced very flat in his local debut. Drops in for a tag now, and he IS better
than the last effort.
7
Beach Bandit
The bandit was aggressive on
opening night, and he ended up finishing an ‘ok’ 4th. Should continue to improve with each start
after the extended layoff missing last season, but not sure he’s ready just
yet.
8
All is Saidanddone
I was satisfied with his
performance last Sunday, and I feel like he will continue to improve here in
his 2nd local start. Shehan
going to have to find a way to work him into it from post 8. Price should be right.
Race 3 Selections 6-7-5-4
1
Sister Gola
This mare absolutely LOVES
this track and is coming off a blowout win at Bluegrass. All that being said, this is an extremely
tough crew. I’ll wait for a better
spot.
2
Felipe Makaay
Decent try last time, and
keep in mind that was his first start back off an almost 5 month break. He was over 20 lengths behind #6 in the
Q’er though. Only underneath.
3
Frozen Assets
Has held his own down in
South Fla, but taking a big step up against a couple of nice trotters
tonight. I’ll watch one over the red
clay first.
4
Miss DW Chip
You certainly can’t argue
that this mare is RAZOR sharp right now, having won 3 of her last 4 at Bluegrass.
Facing a far tougher crew tonight, needs her very best to hit the
ticket.
5
Blueridge Legacy
Held his own against some
talented older trotters at Balmoral, and this guy has won over this strip in
the past. Not quite sure he can go
with the top two, but should be close with any luck at all.
6
Don Giovanni
Wow!!! I was here for the dazzling AM effort, and
it was simply amazing given the fact that he has raced one time in
essentially the last 3 years. If he is
anywhere close to that tonight, go ahead and put a circle around him.
7
Prayer Session
Very talented 3yo is likely
to be one of the favorites for the $250k KYSS here on September 9th,
and he came up only a ½ length short back on 6-16 going for $343k in Canada. All that said, I must admit I was a tad
disappointed in his local appearance at the fair. Needs a grade ‘A’ effort to go with
#6.
Race 4 Selections 7-3-6-4
1
Whispers Art
Has proven to be very
competitive against similar at Scioto, and
lands on the pole in short field. His
best should put him right in the mix.
2
Broadway Fame
Made it back to back wins
with a going away score on opening night, but takes a step up to take on
higher level claimers here. Going to
need even more to hang with these.
Your call.
3
Idbegoodatthat
He was VERY good at what he
does last Sunday, as he sat fairly close to a quick opening pace and sprinted
by his rivals late to pull off the 13-1 stunner. Any similar effort should make him handle the
jump up in class.
4
Skyway Scoot
Lone mare in the field
finally appeared to show some signs of improvement in her last effort in Columbus. Doesn’t have much early speed though, and
will need to pick up live cover to have any shot. KB opted to #3.
5
Mor Than Enuf Russ
Russ has been really
spreading out his starts this season, and I’m not sure why that is the
case. Was a winner in his most recent
effort, but taking a big hike up tonight.
Pass. Loney opted to #7
instead.
6
Blue Star Majesty
Triple T will likely be
blasting early with this guy. Look at
the back class here, 19 wins in 75 starts with over $432k made. Impressive!
Price will be right. I wouldn’t
blame you for taking a shot!
7
Paradise Ragtime
World renowned traveler here,
shows being in Michigan, western KY, and California just over
his last 4 starts! Hung right with
this class down in Paducah. I’m on board. Loney opted here over #5.
Race 5 Selections 1-4-5-3
1
Doc’s Hope
For a moment, this was the
fastest 2yr filly in the country last year after she went a dazzling 1:56.4
at Thunder Ridge in May. She was shut
down after that effort, but has come back with authority this season. I know it is a 3yo racing older mares here,
but they are going to have to prove to me that they can beat this one.
2
Hoosier GB Diamond
Held her own at this level
at Bluegrass, but faces some tough rivals
here. I’ll wait for a better
spot.
3
Tiaras Bluff
Mare has had some success
here in the past, but I think she may be spotted a bit ambitiously. She will likely be coming from off the
pace. Asking quite a bit against
these.
4
Dollys Joy
Continues to improve with
each start back on the year, and should be ready to rock here in her 4th
start back of the season. A winner in
10 of 30 LT, and hit the board in 23 of 30.
Take a long look here.
5
Kilowatts Fantasy
Shows some decent lines in
OH & IN, but I have a hard time believing a mare that shows $6k claiming
lines is going to beat #’s 1 & 4 in this spot. Stranger things have happened I
suppose.
6
Premier Cami Cane
Shows a 53.3 mark earlier
this year at Dover, but has ran into some
stamina issues in her last couple at Bluegrass. I’ll wait until we see her show some signs
of improvement.
7
Thatillbsweet
Back to back wins to
closeout her Bluegrass Downs meet, as she nears in on $100k LT earnings. Lands on the outside against a solid crew
for her local debut. Going to need
even more to hang with the top ones here.
Race 6 Selections 8-6-4-9 See
Pick 4 ticket at the end
1
Sempre Ribera
Did he really get off at
285-1 last time?? Wow, talk about a
big price! Not quite sure he will be
that big of a number here, but still going to be large. Needs even more.
2
Blueridge Hall
Raced evenly here in his
debut, and truthfully he only finished a little over a length behind #4 who
was a heavy favorite in that field. I
still wasn’t overly impressed, but he definitely fits with these.
3
Brooklets Power Play
Making his 1st
start after almost 4 months on the shelf.
May come up a bit ‘shorthanded’ off the break, I’ll wait until he gets
a start or two under his belt.
4
Jate O’del
Went off a heavy favorite
just as he should in a weak spot here on opening night, and really never
showed much interest in a disappointing 3rd place finish. Changes barns tonight.. Will it wake him
up? Wish I knew.
5
King’s Lightning
9yo has a little back class,
but has been very lightly raced over the last couple of seasons. Changed barns for his last start, and is
fairly hard to gage off that try. I’ll
watch one before crowning him.
6
Hillcrest Domingo
Gelding broke a piece of
equipment in the Q’fer, so he followed up with a work by himself on Sunday
and I will have to say he looked fairly impressive. Can he go with the favs in here? Good question.
7
Mr Cool
Shows some decent efforts at
Bluegrass, but hooks up with a lot tougher
crew tonight. I will pass for
now.
8
Thank You Mamma
Mamma got used hard in a
sizzling opening quarter at Scioto in her
last, but she does appear to be potentially rounding the corner since adding
lasix two back. Barn does well
here.
9
Ab’s Beach Boy
This guy has had some
unbelievable miles here throughout his career, and he has made that nearly
$300k the hard way taking on all comers in top overnights. All that said, he has been on the shelf for
10 months and shows only one ‘ok’ Q’fer and gets slammed with post 9. Not typically a recipe for success right
off.
Race 7 Selections 8-1-3-5
1
Doc’s Coco
One of the FEW things I
prognosticated correctly on opening night was this filly hitting the board at
a BIG price. No question that the
lasix has helped her step her game up.
Not overly tough field, should be very close.
2
GD Rosanne
11 LT starts and filly is
yet to hit the board, however she moves into the hands of Team Neafus and
probably lands in an easier spot than she’s ever faced. Still going to have to prove it.
3
Who’s West West
Made up a lot of ground in
his local debut, and that was certainly a better start than it probably looks
on paper. A fairly comfortable spot,
and any similar effort puts him right in the mix.
4
Droppinthe Kurtin
I’ll have to admit that I
was a bit disappointed in his last try, as he was simply outpaced down the
lane. Going to need to find more.
5
Momspacific flight
Filly has been outpaced in
her last several tries in Indy, and now drops in for her first local try and
picks up the services of Kyle Bolon.
She may win, but I can’t accept a short price on her. I’ll look elsewhere.
6
Half Dozen Roses
2yo taking on older, and I’m
not quite sure she is ready for this test.
Should continue to improve though.
7
Alluring Art
Had every opportunity to win
on Sunday, and came to a screeching halt after having an unpressured lead for
the majority of the mile. Must find
more stamina to compete. Barn is
always a threat though.
8
Show Me Some Skin
Very disappointed in her KY
Fair Final, but she IS better than that.
She faces a fairly comfortable crew here, and anything close to her
best puts her squarely to the top of the list.
9
Goodtimin Cam
Hasn’t shown a lot of
ability just yet, but I will say that he did pass a couple in the Q’fer when
adding lasix and maybe that will be the magic key. I’ll watch closely for any further
improvement.
Race 8 Selections 8-6-3-5
1
Blueridge Straight
Shows some solid starts in
OH, but this is no easy bunch he has landed in against. Should sit close to the pace and will try
and hang on for a piece.
2
Father in Law
Got home by a nose last time,
but another that could be in deep water against this crew. Would need to pick it up quite a bit.
3
Minks Request
Has closed very well in his
last couple, and should improve while stretching out to the big track
tonight. Having said that, I’d love to
see him in for a $5k tag rather than against these kind. Nisonger opted here over #5.
4
Bar B’s Apache Cam
Appears to be a VERY tough
spot for him. Not for me.
5
Papaknowsbest
Held off #3 to win by a neck
2 starts back, and raced fairly well in his last start also. Should be blasting early and sitting up
close. Maybe underneath. Nisonger opted to #3 instead.
6
Real or Magic
Has been hooking up with
tough overnight company in Chicago
recently, and he appears to fit well with these. Likely to be the fav, and is certainly the
one to beat.
7
Arringarosa
Would like this guy a lot
more if he wasn’t coming off a scratched sick line and hadn’t missed a month
prior to tonight. Likes this track,
but I’m going to have to watch one first before endorsing.
8
Jagger Blue Chip
Checked in with the fastest
mile of the year at Thunder Ridge in winning the Open in 54.4. Makes his 1st start for new barn
tonight after a nice Q’fer. The horse
that finished 2nd in his Q’fer came out to win on opening night as
well. Should be all systems go.
Race 9 Selections 1-5-3-2
1
Bucky Can’t Caddy
Always been a fan of this
guy, and he does show a win earlier this year at Hoosier in 54.4. Anything close to that kind of mile puts
him right in the mix, we could be looking at another live longshot!
2
Title Shot
12yo suffered through a very tough trip against similar company
at Scioto, and still held on to pick up a 4th
place bone. Any smoother journey
should allow him to be close.
3
Irish Big Guy
Charged home well in his
local debut to finish up right behind #5, and any similar effort would make
him another with a big chance here in WIDE open finale.
4
O’Rourke Three
NY invader has 250 LT starts
and over $634k in career earnings. He
has always been a hard knocking horse, but he will likely take a lot of tote
action here and I’m going to watch one first.
5
Crime Scene Cruzer
Sprinted right by his rivals
to cruise home for a win here on Sunday, and takes a slight jump up for his 2nd
local start. Couldn’t have looked any
better the first time around, can he follow it up?
6
Get Ready to Rumba
Lone mare in the field
invades from Ocean Downs in Maryland,
and she hasn’t been finishing her miles that well recently. Would take a lot more to ‘rumba’ with these.
7
Dugan Run Dream
This guy has been holding
his own against lesser company at Raceway, but hooks a fairly contentious
group in his first local start. Not
tonight.
8
Sandbar Slugger
The slugger got good here
around this time last year and he ships in after a couple of tough trips on
the OH fair circuit. I’ll watch one
before hopping on board.
9
Real Hanover
Shows one dull effort in
between a couple of scratched injured lines…. Hmm… If he was anywhere close to right, he could
easily be the best in here. Take a
long look at him on the track. Your
call.
10
Feys Blitzen Grey
The grey gladiator makes his
2012 debut over the red clay, and lands in post 10 after a decent
layoff. I suspect he will use this one
as a tightner from way out here.
Should be flying late regardless.
