Red Mile Nightly Selections

Friday, October 7th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                5-1-3-6

1

Shacklesonmyfeet

Pierce got the jump on the field last week with an aggressive move going into the far turn, but couldn’t fend off the late rally by #5 and had to settle for 2nd.  Similar crew here and should be sitting close throughout.

2

Dixieland Delight

Would have loved to have seen her go around the track last week, but she ended up scratched.  Certainly appears to have a ton of speed if she trots, but is only 1 for 16 at the end of the day.  Short price looming.

3

Kendall Blue

Another filly that appears to bring plenty of question marks to the table, making breaks in 3 of her last 4 starts.  Appears to have some talent when she stays flat.  Which KB shows up here?

4

Screaming Awsome

Perfect trip behind the eventual winner last time, but could only manage to hold the 3rd spot.  Not as good as she was here earlier in the season, but should sit close once again in small field.  Lachance opted to #6 instead.

5

Fire in the Cell

I’ll have to admit that I wasn’t on board last week, and this filly unleashed a wicked late kick to sprint by #1 down the lane with ease.  Been 1-2 in 11 of 14 starts on the season.  Hope I’m not too late to the party.

6

Migisi

Took a shot at the heavyweights in KY Filly Futurity last Sunday without much success, but takes a big plunge back down in class to a much more manageable spot here.  Maybe.  Lachance opted here over #4.

Race 2                     Selections                                6-4-3-5

1

Dreamgirl Lindy

Tired after a tough first over grind last time, and ended up getting away near the back of the pack from the rail.  Lands back on the pole here with plenty of early speed outside of her.  Similar story here?

2

South Bay

Followed up the eventual winner last time, but could only manage to be 4th down the lane in 2nd start off the layoff for new barn.  Should continue to improve, but still needs a lot more speed for these.

3

Rose Run Marci

OHSS Champ took a brutal shuffle last time, and had to fan widest of all before charging hard to nab the 3rd spot behind her OH rival.  The OH Champ hooks up with the KY Champ here.  Noble opted to #6, I’ll do the same.

4

Lady Deda D

Never fired off a perfect pocket trip last time, but picks up leading MI reinsman Brad Kramer tonight.  Filly likes to get her picture taken, 13 of 17 on the season.  Needs a LOT more to knock off the top ones though.

5

D Lee More

Absolutely hammered through the windows down to 1-2 last week, but had to settle for 2nd behind #6 in first start for new barn.  Going to have to find more late.

6

Adagio

It’s a Midwestern showdown here, with the KY, OH, & MI Sire Stake Champs battling it out.  This filly has won 3 of her last 4 and NEVER as the betting favorite.  I’m rooting for the home team.  She’s RAZOR sharp.

7

Swing Anna Cash

Ran into some breaking problems at the smaller OH fair tracks, and should enjoy the return to the larger oval here.  Hooks a solid group tonight though, I’ll pass in here.

Race 3                     Selections                                4-5-1-8

1

Lindys Jersey Boy

Rebounded with a clean line in tough company last time, and lands on the pole here in what appears to be a bit of a softer crew.  Any similar effort should put him close in here.  Tetrick opted here over #7.

2

Catman Dude

($37k HB yearling) Inherited the lead after the heavy fav made a break in front of him just past the half, but had to settle for 3rd.  Certainly an improved effort, and things appear fairly open behind the fav in here.  Maybe.

3

Epic Tale

($140k HB yearling) Not sure what happened last time, but he tired badly late.  Would need a complete turnaround in here.

4

Big Chocolate

Big effort from Big Chocolate last time, as he closed very well up the inside and it looked like he might even go by for a brief moment.  Any similar effort makes him the one to beat in here.

5

Mr Chicago

($90k Lex yearling) Not sure about Chicago, but you can call him Mr Lexington after a dominant score in LC last week.  Taking a BIG step up to take on stakes company, but looks to fit well in here.

6

Duluth

Finished up behind #4 in American Nat’l two back at Balmoral with a decent 3rd, but never really fired in stake here last week.  Appears to have hooked a bit of an easier crew here, but still going to need his very best.

7

World Cup

($170k Lex yearling – highest YG sold in ’10) Finished up right on the line with #6 in the stake here last week, and hasn’t quite shown the speed to hang with the top ones in here just yet.  I’ll wait until we see more.

8

Nagini

Continues to improve with each LT start, and put in a solid effort to finish only a half length back in 3rd last week against a solid crew.  Not sure the trip will be as sweet from post 8, but still should have a big say.

 Race 4                     Selections                                4-2-1-5

1

Gym Tan Laundry

($35k Lex yearling) Rode the pylons and finished up 3rd behind #2 last time, and has yet to miss the board in 4 LT starts.  Not sure he is on the same level as the two favs in here just yet, but should sit close from inside post.

2

Possess the Will

($135k HB yearling) Rebounded with a BIG effort in his first local start and beat BC that night who was just in the prior race.  Hooks up with a tough rival in #4, but looks like he can go with him.  TT opted here over #5.

3

Classic Conway

Ended up with the 7 hole on an off track at Saratoga in NYSS final, and I suppose we can excuse the flat effort there.  Had been sharp prior to that, but taking a big step up into open stakes company here.  Your call.

4

Money on my Mind

($62k HB yearling) Hit the board in all 8 starts this season, and just missed by a head in the $478k Wellwood last time at Mohawk.  Looks like one of the top colts in the country, and I have to give him a slight edge over #2.

5

Appomattox

($110k Lex yearling) Benefited from a couple of breakers in stake here last week, and ended up finishing a nice 2nd.  I would expect another off the pace rally here.  Tetrick opted off for #2 instead.

6

Muscolo

($205k HB yearling – highest MY sold in ’10) No match for #2 last week, and would need a lot more here.

7

Rock N Jessie

($16k Ohio Select yearling) OH sired colt regressed into another break last time, and has hooked an overly tough crew here.  Pass.

8

PB Lindy

Ended up choosing stakes company over LC action last week, and eliminated himself with a break at the start.  Would need to find a lot more speed to go with the top ones in here.

Race 5                     Selections                                1-5-7-2

1

American Jewel

Absolutely WRAPPED up in sprinting away from her rivals as the 1-9 fav last time from post 9.  Lands on the pole here against a solid field, but this Jewel is in a league of her own!

2

Southwind Johanne

Held her own against mid-level stakes company in PA, but taking a step up to the major leagues here to take on the very best.  Not sure I like how things set up for her in here.

3

Upfront Secret

($30k HB yearling) Got caught in the back off a slow half in LC last week, but taking a HUGE step up to take on open stakes company tonight.  It’s no secret that this looks like a tough task for her.  Pass.  DM opted to #6.

4

Darena Hanover

($20k HB yearling) No match for #1 last time, and I don’t see things changing in here.  Pass.

5

Big McDeal

($70k Lex yearling – highest Mcardle sold in ’10) Used HARD leaving last week, and still angled to the outside with late pace against a solid crew.  Should be on the gas early once again in here, and it looks ICE COLD 1-5!

6

Notreadytobenice

($65k Lex yearling) JC was unable to wrestle her down into the pocket for long, and had to move to the front down the backside.  Ended up fading late against a solid crew.  Needs to relax more to make any major noise.

7

Bound to Rock

Rode the pylons last time and ended up finishing 4 lengths behind the top ones in finishing 8th.  Outside of the favs, she appears to have hooked a less competitive crew here and should have a shot at minor awards.

Race 6                     Selections      2-6-4-1                    Start of $10,000 Guaranteed Pick 4      See ticket at the end

1

From Above

($165k Lex yearling) Perfect steer from Loney parlayed along with a couple of timely breaks by the favs, ended up being enough for this guy to get the job done last time.  Hooks a solid crew here though.

2

Uncle Peter

($60k Lex yearling) Unleashed the fastest mile of the season by a freshman colt trotter in LC ranks last week, and lands in a fairly comfortable spot here in stakes company tonight.  Looks like clearly the one to beat.

3

Blazed

($135k HB yearling) I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out what happened to this guy last time, he appeared no good around the final turn and then sprinted home to end up finishing a pretty decent 4th.  Not quite sure what to do with him, I know there is some talent here.  Ends up in a stacked up crew here though.

4

Delano

Connections opted to skip the NYSS final to race him on the big track here last week, and he ended up tiring in deep stretch.  He is better than that, but he has also landed in quite the shark tank here.  Your call.

5

Power Play

($87k HB yearling) Came first over against #4 last time and got by him late only to be nailed by a hard closing SG late.  Held his own against some top colts this season, but needs his very best to make any major noise here.

6

Pekoe Fashion

Began his career with 5 consecutive wins, but has run into trouble in the last two.  Appeared ready to coast around the track to an easy win last time, but made an uncharacteristic break on the front.  Needs a big rebound.

7

Norway Hanover

($40k HB yearling) Showed some improvement in finishing a distant 2nd to #2 last time, and now moves right up to take on stakes company alongside him.  Lands on the outside of an incredibly tough division.  Not tonight.

Race 7                     Selections                                4-5-2-8

1

Rose Run Natassia

Hooked an enormously tough duo in the AM effort, so I wouldn’t pay any attention to the margin of defeat.  Still going to have to prove she can stay flat.

2

Lindy’s Madonna

Eliminated herself with a break at the start last time, but has landed back in a fairly manageable crew.  Could sneak on the ticket at a nice number if Tetrick can get her to mind her manners.

3

Prospect

($90k Lex yearling) Had some stamina issues thus far in her brief career, and I’ll wait until we see more.

4

Blue Muscles

($30k Lex yearling) Used this filly to hit the ticket at a BIG price last time and unfortunately she made a break after landing in a perfect early spot.  Added hobbles in the AM, hopefully that gets her past the breaking issues.

5

Exercise to Go

($40k Lex yearling) Made a break in an overly tough spot last time against stakes company, and lands back in a more comfortable spot here tonight.  Should find this a lot more to her liking.

6

Quiche Lorraine

Added hobbles for her last 3 and appeared to have turned the corner before regressing back into a break last time.  A lot of question marks in here, but she appears to have the talent to go with these.

7

Hooray Katie

Trotted evenly last time against a solid bunch, and lands in what should be a bit of an easier crew here.  Should provide plenty of value, but still needs to find more speed.

8

Classic Filly

Didn’t get out until very late last time, and finished up with plenty of trot to be 2nd behind a dominant winner.  Lands back in a similar crew here, and a similar effort should put her close once again.  Lachance opted to #4.

Race 8                     Selections                                9-1-3-6

1

Dazzling Valley

Not sure what happened in Chicago for American Nat’l races, but this filly has been SUPER in her last couple of local starts.  Missed a head to a nice filly last time, and looks to have hooked an easier crew tonight.

2

Primrose Volo

Was far behind #1 in that mile last time, and would need a lot more speed to go with the top ones in here.

3

Willing Wind

Trotted evenly in the same mile with #’s 1 & 2 last time, and appears to have really rounded the corner since arriving in town a few weeks ago.  Looks like one of several with a shot at the minor awards.

4

Devilicious

($17k Lex yearling) Game first over try last time, but ended up getting passed by #6 who followed her up in the flow.  Continues to improve with each LT start, and lands in another competitive crew here.  Maybe.

5

Love N Lindy

Finished up both Kindergarten efforts with plenty of trot, but eliminated herself with a break at the start last time.  Trainer hops back in the bike here, and I would expect her to be flying late at a nice number.

6

Lindmeyourvictory

Yet another perfect steer from JC last time, and there is a reason why he is a 17-time GC Driving Champ here.  Filly responded with a nice late kick to get by #4 in deep stretch.  Any similar journey should put her close once again.  Campbell opted here over #8.

7

Shanty Irish

Added hobbles for the first time last week, and finished up with a decent effort to be 3rd.  She didn’t have clearance until late, but wasn’t overloaded with trot when she finally found a seam.  Nonetheless, it looks like she is one of several with a big shot in here.

8

Serene Lady

Talk about another perfect drive from Campbell, this filly showed plenty of late interest after a perfect pocket ride and came charging up the inside to be 2nd at 76-1.  Not quite sure the trip will work out as well in here, and I don’t think we will see anywhere near that price again either.  Campbell opted to #6 instead.

9

Quarantine

My longshot of the night play last week had an extremely tough trip to be parked past the half before clearing, and then faced immediate pressure from #4.  At the end of the day she was beaten less than 2 lengths, and I am willing to hop right back on board here at what should be another BIG price.

Race 9                     Selections                                6-7-1-3

1

Destiny’s Chance

Perfect steer from YG to pull off the big 30-1 upset from post 10 last time, for a filly that has really rounded into form over the last few starts.  Facing many of the same fillies here, and has proven she can go with them.

2

Sangaal

Rallied from the back of the pack to within 2 lengths of #1 last time after the quick early pace.  Should continue to improve in 2nd local start off the brief layoff, but has landed in another stacked up crew here.

3

Ramalama

Was sensational in winning LC event here in week one, and sprinted away from the field that night under absolutely no encouragement from JC.  Asking a lot to step up with these, but looked to have more in the tank.

4

Marty Party

($35k Lex yearling – highest YC filly sold in ’10) Made an aggressive move to the top down the backside last time through a torrid early pace, and dug in down the lane but ended up getting passed by #’s 1 & 7 late.  Those 3 have finished right on the line together both times they have hooked up now, and it looks like it will come down to the trip in here.

5

Red Shadow

($20k HB yearling) No match for the top ones in here last time, and would have to find a lot more to make any major noise.  I’ll wait for an easier spot.

6

Shelliscape

($25k Lex yearling) Ended up with a tough first over trip last time, and towed the undefeated AJ right up behind her.  No shame in losing to that one, but she is going to need her very best in here as well.  JC opted here over 2,3

7

Economy Terror

Never been worse than 2nd in 8 career starts, and ended up with a tough first over trip against #4 last time.  No question she is the one to beat again tonight, but I’m willing to look elsewhere for some value.

8

Podges Lady

($30k Lex yearling) Parlayed a perfect pocket trip into a nice 2nd place finish behind the Queen of the division last time.  Plenty of early speed, and I would expect RP to put her in play early once again.  YG opted to #1.

Race 10                   Selections                                6-3-4-7

1

Highland Yankee

($45k HB yearling) Eliminated himself with a miscue behind the gate last time, but I can assure you that this guy has some talent when he minds his manners.  Should sit close from the pole, will need his very best.

2

Pilgrims Power

($17k HB yearling) Hasn’t had any luck since arriving in town a couple of weeks back, and would need a complete turnaround to make any major noise in a solid group tonight.

3

Magic Tonight

($55k Lex yearling) Perfectly timed move by Pierce to get around #2 last week and get the jump on the heavy fav in there.  Continues to improve with each LT start, and any similar effort makes him the one to beat.

4

Go Tapaigh

($25k HB yearling) If I was a betting man (and I am), I would bet some serious coin that this guy was home free in the stake before making a break last week in deep stretch.  His best would put him right in the mix here.

5

Melt in Your Mouth

($35k HB yearling) No match for #3 last time, but does appear to be one of many with a shot at the minor awards in here in his 2nd start for new barn.

6

Nothing But Class

($65k HB yearling) Had to go back and watch the replay of that Wellwood Final to satisfy my curiosity, and this guy got in a world of trouble in that one.  Had some trot when he shook loose late before making a break.  I have a feeling there is a LOT more talent here than what we’ve seen thus far.

7

Scary Good

($95k HB yearling) Yet to miss the board in 6 LT tries, and angled out off the pylons to sprint home and spring the 16-1 upset in stake last week.  One of several with a shot in competitive crew.  Sears opted here over #’s 1, 8.

8

Frost Bites K

Frost Bites should have been in town last week when we had temperatures down in the 30’s, but he arrives after we’ve warmed up and draws the outside in a solid group.  Not sure I like how things set up for him here.

 Race 11                   Selections                                7-3-2-6

1

Cruzin tothe Dance

($10k Lex yearling) Ended up in the fastest of 3 LC divisions last time by far, and ended up 3rd in there behind what appear to be a couple of nice fillies.  Ends up landing in the softest of 3 stakes divisions this week, but still going to need her very best to make any major noise in here.

2

Sha Delight

($70k HB yearling) Rode the pylons in a very tough crew in stake last week, and gets the benefit of landing in what appears to be a much more comfortable spot here.  Should sit close, and her main rivals drew outside.  Lots to like.  D Miller opted off for #7 instead.

3

Another Hanover

($55k HB yearling) Back to back first over trips in NYSS action, and I was fairly impressed with her ability to dig in for 4th on the off track in the last one at Yonkers.  Has proven she can go with some nice fillies, lands in a nice spot here.

4

Miss Mojo

No match for the top fillies in stakes action last week, and would need to find a lot more to hang with the top ones in here tonight.

5

I’m Fondue of You

($52k Lex yearling) Held her own against mid-level stakes company in PA, but I’m not too fondue of the fact that she has spoiled a couple of pocket trips in her last two.  Couldn’t get by #6 in last effort.  Needs more.

6

Frontierpan

Stole that last one with a leisurely pace on the front, and dug in gamely late to fend off #5.  Has proven she can go with some top fillies this season, and appears to be one of many with a shot in here.

7

Lightning Paige

Filly won her first couple of LT starts, and then followed up with a wicked final panel last week to finish up a nice 4th behind AJ.  Continues to improve with each LT start.  D Miller opted here over #’s 2 & 5.

8

Rockaround Sue

($22k HB yearling) Followed the eventual winner in there last time, but could only manage 5th and was actually gunned down late by #7.  Lands in a WIDE open crew here, and I’m going to try and find some value elsewhere.

Race 12                   Selections                                1-2-6-4

1

Allgrownup

Jumped it off shortly after making a move to the front last time, but filly has shown plenty of talent thus far in her brief career.  Should sit close from inside post, and I’m looking for a big rebound.

2

Fancy

($42k HB yearling) Very nice off the pace rally last time to finish up a game 2nd at odds of 22-1.  Lands back in what should be a more comfortable spot here, and any similar effort should put her close once again.

3

PS Emily’s Tuition

($12k HB yearling) Added hobbles last time, but still wasn’t enough to solve her breaking issues.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement before hopping on board.  D Miller opted to #2 instead.

4

Uptown Lindy

($22k HB yearling) Trotted evenly once again to be 3rd last time, and it seems she finds a way to sneak on to the ticket at a nice price each week.  Will need her very best once again.

5

Northern Cindy

Eliminated herself with an early miscue last time, but appeared to have some ability earlier this season.  Going to need her very best here.

6

Sher to Be

Arrived in town undefeated, but got used hard to make the lead and that ended up taking it’s toll late.  Any smoother journey should put her close in here.

7

Bimmelibim

Had nothing to offer late in her debut, and would need a LOT more to hang with the top ones in here.

8

Teresa Tresa

($23k Lex yearling) Trotted evenly in her first local start last week, but ended up finishing far behind #2 in that one.  Ends up on the outside here, and would need to find a lot more speed to make any major noise.
