Kindergarten Leg #4 Complete

The Red Mile played host to the fourth and penultimate leg of the Kindergarten Trotting Classic series on Thursday evening. Conditions were ideal, as they often are in Lexington, KY, and seven divisions of the freshmen trotters were performing before a crowd of their human counterparts for a purse of $10,000 per split on “College Night” at the track.

Gov. Beshear to attend Kentucky Super Night

The best of harness racing in the Bluegrass State will be on display on Sunday night, Sept. 1, at The Red Mile when the historic Lexington racetrack hosts the $2 million Kentucky Sire Stakes Super Night. The program annually attracts one of the largest crowds of the year to the famed clay oval and attendees this year will be joined by Governor Steve Beshear and his wife, Jane. “The history and heritage of The Red Mile is unique to Kentucky,” Gov. Beshear said. “Since opening in 1875, it continues to be the oldest pari-mutuel harness track in North America. The First Lady and I will be pleased to be a part of that tradition when we present the trophy for the Kentucky Sire Stakes on September 1.”

The final race card at The Red Mile featured some of the world’s greatest trotters and older horses. Headlining the card was the 120th edition of the $508,000 Kentucky Futurity and its filly counterpart, the 47th edition of the $287,000 Kentucky Filly Futurity. Also on the stellar closing card was the $70,000 Allerage Mare Pace, $131,200 Allerage Open Trot, $119,200 Allerage Mare Trot and the $155,000 Allerage Open Pace.

The 120th Kentucky Futurity on Sunday

The 120th Kentucky Futurity caps off the Red Mile Grand Circuit meet for 2012 on Sunday, October 7. Thirteen three year old trotting colts were declared for the stake, resulting in two divisions carded as races five and six on the bill. The top finishers will return for the second heat in race nine and if there is not a repeat winner from heat one, the three winners will compete in a 'winner take all' race-off.
