The Red Mile mourns the passing of a great friend and benefactor in Henry D. Mayer. Mr. Mayer passed away on December 29, 2012 at age 85 with his loving wife Patricia at his side.

Harness racing,
particularly the Grand Circuit in Lexington, was his passion. Mr. Mayer spent
many an afternoon with Patricia in his railbird box seats trackside at The Red Mile. He also
enjoyed attending and participating in the yearling sales as a part of the Lexington experience each fall.
Over the years Mr. Mayer
held a stake in a number of top horses, listing the immortal Niatross and
McKinzie Almahurst among the most notable. His trainers were the sport's elite,
counting W.R. Haughton and George Sholty among them.
At the time of his death,
Henry and Patricia were training several horses with their good friend, Hall of
Famer Jim Doherty.
Always a study in style
and grace, Henry Mayer will be sorely missed by all that knew him and leave an
empty space in the heart of his friends here at The Red Mile.
